Abstract
Kata kunci: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Gerakan Sekolah Sehat (GSS), ekoliterasi, Sekolah Dasar. Climate change that causes forest destruction, air pollution, and water quality degradation are challenges faced today. Unsustainable human activities have caused serious damage to the environment and threaten the sustainability of ecosystems on earth. Moving on from these problems, the United Nations launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which have 17 indicators, namely regarding quality education to ensure equality and quality of inclusive education to increase sustainable learning opportunities for all humans and regarding Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). These goals are applied through education which is expected to improve the quality of life, including human knowledge about the environment. One of the SDGs development programmes implemented at the primary school level in Indonesia is the Gerakan Sekolah Sehat (GSS) programme. This study aims to describe the Gerakan Sekolah Sehat (GSS) programme that has been implemented in primary schools in fostering students' ecoliteracy and to describe the implementation of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programme in primary schools. The research method used a qualitative research approach with a case study design. The results of the research showed that the GSS program has components including healthy nutrition, physical health, immunisation, mental health, and healthy environment. through the GSS program to support the WASH program, there is a healthy environment component. Activities from the programme can foster students‘ ecoliteracy in the head (cognitive) aspect of students’ understanding of the importance of proper hand washing, nutritious food, the benefits of exercise, and sorting garbage according to its type, heart (emotional) implementing a schedule of hygiene ambassadors every week and stretching between lessons, hands (active) habituation of folk games and maintenance of school cleanliness, and the spirit aspect of no students playing with water taps and using them alternately with other students. The implementation of simple programmes related to WASH in elementary schools showed the elements of ecoliteracy that began to emerge from students in the aspect of Adopt Patterns of Production, Consumption, and Reproduction with the habit of students bringing food supplies and tumblers to school, the aspect of Respect for Earth which reflects environmental ethics is reflected in students' fairly good understanding of the types of waste, but is constrained in its implementation at school due to the lack of separate trash can facilities, and the aspect of Care for Life has not found student characters who have an attitude in deciding to choose organic food, reprimanding friends who take actions that are not environmentally friendly. Implementing WASH programmes in primary schools affects students' ecoliteracy when viewed from schools that do not have WASH-related programmes. Therefore, comprehensive information about WASH programmes in each education unit is needed, supported by relevant parties to implement an equitable education programme, and no one is left behind. Key words: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Gerakan Sekolah Sehat (GSS), ecoliteracy, primary school.
