Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya permasalahan dalam proses pembelajaran, terutama dalam kemampuan membaca pemahaman. Siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memaknai bacaan, dan sulit fokus ketika proses membaca berlangsung. Hal tersebut salah satunya disebabkan oleh metode pembelajaran yang kurang menarik minat siswa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus pada peningkatan kemampuan membaca pemahaman melaui pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching pada siswa kelas VI. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan hasil pembelajaran kemampuan membaca pemahaman dengan penerapan pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching pada setiap siklus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memberikan solusi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa melalui pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas desain Kemmis dan McTaggart. Pembelajaran dilakukan sebanyak dua siklus, masing-masing siklus terdiri atas 2 pertemuan. Subjek penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas VI MI Sudajaya Kota Sukabumi yang terdiri atas 29 orang, namun yang mengikuti penelitian secara penuh berjumlah 22 orang. Data penelitian diperoleh dari hasil wawancara, observasi, tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa, dan hasil angket. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Berdasarkan tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman pada siklus 1 pertemuan ke-1, diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 62,72 (Cukup); Pada siklus 1 pertemuan ke-2, diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 81,36 (Baik); Pada siklus 2 pertemuan ke-1, diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 84,54 (Baik); Pada siklus 2 pertemuan 2, diperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 87,72 (Sangat Baik). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan Culturally Responsive Teaching dapat membantu meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa.
This research is motivated by issues in the learning process, particularly in reading comprehension skills. Students face difficulties in interpreting texts and struggle to maintain focus during reading activities. One of the contributing factors is the teaching methods that fail to engage students' interest. Therefore, this study focuses on improving reading comprehension skills through the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach for sixth-grade students. The research problem is formulated as follows: what are the planning, implementation, and outcomes of reading comprehension learning through the application of the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach in each cycle. The objective of this research is to provide a solution for enhancing students' reading comprehension skills using the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach. This study employs the Classroom Action Research method designed by Kemmis and McTaggart. The learning process is conducted over two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings. The subjects of this research are 29 sixth-grade students from MI Sudajaya in Sukabumi City, although only 22 students participated fully in the study. Data is collected through interviews, observations, reading comprehension test, and questionnaires. The data is then analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Based on the reading comprehension test results, the average score in Cycle 1, Meeting 1, was 62.72 (Satisfactory); in Cycle 1, Meeting 2, the average score was 81.36 (Good); in Cycle 2, Meeting 1, the average score was 84.54 (Good); and in Cycle 2, Meeting 2, the average score was 87.72 (Very Good). It can be concluded that the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach can help improve students' reading comprehension skills.
