Annisa Sena, - (2024) PERAN GEJALA DEPRESI SEBAGAI MEDIATOR DALAM PENGARUH NEUROTICISM TERHADAP BINGE-WATCHING PADA DEWASA AWAL. S1 thesis, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
Abstract
This study aims to determine the role of depressive symptoms as a mediator in the influence of neuroticism on binge-watching in early adulthood. This study uses a quantitative approach in testing the mediating role of depressive symptoms on the influence of neuroticism on binge-watching in early adulthood. The respondents of this study were 619 people aged 20-30 years who liked watching series. The research instruments used in this study were the Big Five Inventory (BFI) instrument developed by John (2007) and has been adapted into Indonesian by Reza (2015), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) from Beck (1996) which has been translated by Ariani et al., (2023), and Binge-Watching Addiction Questionnaire (BWAQ) from Forte et al. (2021) which has been adapted into Indonesian by Meinaki (2024). The analysis techniques used were simple regression and path multiple regression tests, as well as the Sobel test to test the mediation hypothesis. The results showed that depressive symptoms fully mediated the influence of conscientiousness and neuroticism personality types on binge-watching. Further research is expected to use early adult samples with high levels of depressive symptoms and/or focus on the type and genre of series on the aspect of binge-watching.
