Abstract
Penelitian ini didasari oleh fakta rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa Indonesia pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel (SPLDV), yang diduga berkaitan erat dengan kecerdasan majemuk, terutama kecerdasan logis-matematis dan linguistik. Kecerdasan majemuk adalah kecerdasan yang dinilai dari kemampuan seseorang untuk menyelesaikan masalah sendiri atau menciptakan sesuatu yang bermanfaat bagi lingkungannya, bukan sekadar dari hasil tes IQ. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan secara komprehensif kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP SPLDV ditinjau dari kecerdasan logis-matematis dan linguistik. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menganalisis secara mendalam kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa pada materi SPLDV, dengan fokus pada perbedaan kecerdasan logis-matematis dan linguistik. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi angket kecerdasan logis-matematis dan lingustik, tes pemecahan masalah matematis, dan wawancara untuk mendapatkan data komprehensif tentang strategi dan kesulitan siswa. Partisipan penelitian adalah 64 siswa kelas IX SMP yang dikelompokkan berdasarkan kombinasi tingkat kecerdasan logis-matematis dan linguistik mereka, serta seorang guru matematika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan kecerdasan logis-matematis tinggi cenderung berhasil di semua tahapan pemecahan masalah matematis, sedangkan siswa dengan kecerdasan linguistik tinggi mampu memahami soal tetapi menghadapi kesulitan dalam operasi matematis. Siswa dengan kombinasi kecerdasan sedang menunjukkan kemampuan yang bervariasi, terutama kesulitan dalam memeriksa jawaban dan mengomunikasikan proses pemecahan masalah. Sebagai rekomendasi, penelitian ini menyarankan penerapan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi yang mempertimbangkan variasi kecerdasan siswa untuk mengatasi kesulitan mereka dalam pemecahan masalah matematis. This study is motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving abilities of Indonesian students in the topic of systems of linear equations in two variables (SLETV), which are suspected to be closely related to multiple intelligences, particularly logical-mathematical and linguistic intelligence. Multiple intelligence refers to an individual’s capacity to independently solve problems or create something beneficial to their environment rather than merely reflecting IQ test results. This study aims to comprehensively describe junior high school students' problem-solving skills in SLETV from the perspectives of logical-mathematical and linguistic intelligence. The research employed a qualitative approach to deeply analyze students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities in SLETV, focusing on the differences between logical-mathematical and linguistic intelligence. Data collection techniques included questionnaires on logical-mathematical and linguistic intelligence, mathematical problem-solving tests, and interviews to obtain comprehensive data on students' strategies and challenges. The participants were 64 ninth-grade students grouped based on their levels of logical-mathematical and linguistic intelligence, along with a mathematics teacher. The findings indicate that students with high logical-mathematical intelligence tended to succeed in all stages of mathematical problem-solving. In contrast, students with high linguistic intelligence could comprehend the problems but faced difficulties with mathematical operations. Students with moderate levels of intelligence exhibited varying abilities, particularly struggling with answer verification and communicating their problem-solving processes. As a recommendation, this study suggests implementing differentiated instruction that considers variations in students' intelligence to address their difficulties in mathematical problem-solving.
