Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan pemahaman konsep IPA peserta didik pada pembelajaran materi rantai makanan yang tergolong masih rendah. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk membantu meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep IPA peserta didik ialah penerapan model pembelajaran problem based learning yang dapat melibatkan langsung peserta didik secara aktif selama proses pembelajaran agar dapat menemukan konsep pengetahuan baru sendiri. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan model pembelajaran problem based learning dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep pada pembelajaran materi rantai makanan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian quasi experiment dengan nonequivalent control group design. Partisipan penelitian ini merupakan peserta didik di salah satu sekolah dasar negeri di Kota Bandung sebanyak 64 peserta didik yang terbagi menjadi kelas eksperimen sebanyak 32 orang dan kelas kontrol sebanyak 32 orang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan rerata yang signifikan dari penerapan model pembelajaran problem based learning terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep peserta didik di kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Hal tersebut dibuktikan melalui uji Mann Whitney sebesar 0,000 < 0,05 (taraf signifikansi) sehingga H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran problem based learning lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep peserta didik pada materi rantai makanan. This research is motivated by the ability to understand the science concepts of students in learning food chain material which is still relatively low. One of the efforts that can be made to help improve the ability to understand the science concepts of students is the application of problem-based learning models that can directly involve students actively during the learning process in order to find new knowledge concepts themselves. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the application of problem-based learning models on the ability to understand concepts in learning food chain material. The method used in this research is quantitative with a quasi experiment research design with nonequivalent control group design. The participants of this study were students in one of the public elementary schools in Bandung City as many as 64 students who were divided into experimental classes of 32 people and control classes of 32 people. The results of this study indicate a significant average difference from the application of the problem-based learning model to the concept understanding ability of students in experimental and control classes. This is evidenced by the Mann Whitney test of 0.000 <0.05 (significance level) so that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the learning model problem based learning is more effective in improving the ability of the students to understand the concepts of the food chain material.
