Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki penerapan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre yang mendukung kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam teks prosedur tentang permainan tradisional (Gobak Sodor, Bebentengan, dan Boyboyan) dan mengidentifikasi bukti linguistik dari perkembangan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Penelitian ini mengamati kelas dua belas di Bandung, Indonesia, dengan fokus pada pengajaran keterampilan berbicara terkait teks prosedur menggunakan catatan observasi yang dilengkapi dengan rekaman video, transkripsi respon siswa selama kegiatan kelas dan transkripsi tes berbicara sebelum program pengajaran dan test sesudah program pengajaran sebagai penampilan berbicara mereka. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Pendekatan Berbasis Genre dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris tentang bagaimana bermain permainan tradisional. Selain itu, Selain itu, intervensi tersebut menghasilkan kompetensi linguistik yang lebih baik, di mana siswa menghasilkan teks prosedural yang lebih panjang dan lebih koheren dalam berbicara, sesuai dengan karakteristik genre. Namun, beberapa tantangan dalam kelancaran dan pelafalan sebagai aspek mode masih terlihat dalam kecakapan berbicara mereka setelah intervensi. This case study investigated the implementation of Genre-based Approach to support students’ speaking of procedure texts about traditional games (Gobak Sodor, Bebentengan, and Boyboyan and identified the linguistic evidence of their speaking development. The research observed a twelve-grade class in Bandung, Indonesia, focusing on teaching speaking skills related to procedural text using observation notes equipped with video recording, transcriptions of students' responses during the class activities and transcription of their pre- test before the teaching program and post test after the teaching program as their speaking performances. The findings showed that implementing Genre-Based Approach can help students develop their ability to speak about how to play traditional games. Moreover, the intervention resulted better linguistic competence, as students produced longer and more coherent procedural texts in their speaking, aligning with the genre characteristics. However, some challenges in fluency and pronunciation as in the mode aspect, were still observed in their post-intervention performance.
