Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is an archipelagic country flanked by three plates: the Eurasian plate, the Indo-Australian plate, and the Pacific plate. Its geographical location makes it one of the countries with the largest earthquake potential in the world. West Java is in a megathrust area surrounded by five active faults, making it very prone to earthquakes. Disaster preparedness is one way to reduce the severity of disaster impacts. One of the factors in forming preparedness in society is the self-efficacy factor. Objective: to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and community preparedness in facing the earthquake disaster in Narawita Village. Research Method: This research uses a quantitative type of research with a cross sectional approach. The questionnaires used in this research are the General Self Efficacy Scale and the Key performance indicators of disaster preparedness questionnaire. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, totaling 108 people from the Narawita village community. Results and discussion: The self-efficacy of the majority of respondents (71.3%) is in the moderate self-efficacy category, while the disaster preparedness of half of the respondents (41.7%) is in the less prepared category. Based on further Chi-Square tests, a value was obtained (p-value = 0.027 α 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and disaster preparedness.
