Abstract

------ Parental communication habits are consistent interaction patterns between parents and children in a family environment that involve the use of verbal and non-verbal communication that can have an impact on children's emotional behavior. The purpose of this study was to understand how much influence parental communication habits have on children's emotional behavior. Early childhood is related to emotional management and less harmonious emotional relationships with parents. Many children face difficulties in managing their emotions, which can affect their social and emotional development. The research method used is quantitative with an Ex-post Facto approach, involving 156 parents of students from several kindergartens in the X area. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed a significant influence of parental communication habits on children's emotional behavior, with an average value of communication habits of 70.01 and children's emotional behavior of 22.37. The Pearson correlation test showed a strong relationship (r = 0.860, p <0.001) between the two variables, and linear regression analysis indicated that 74% of the variability in children's emotional behavior could be explained by parental communication habits. The relationship between communication habits and children's positive emotional behavior is 0.750, indicating that there is a positive and strong relationship between these two variables. Interviews support this finding by emphasizing that open, empathetic, and consistent communication can improve children's emotional management. This study provides important insights into the importance of appropriate communication patterns in supporting children's emotional development and offers a basis for educational and training programs for parents.
