Abstract
This study aims to adapt an effective Victim Gaslighting Questionnaire (VGQ) to evaluate and/or measure the severity of gaslighting victims in the context of romantic dating relationships in Indonesia. Quantitative research methods were used by involving participants in three stages of data collection, namely: readability test (n = 38), pilot study 1 (n = 133), and pilot study 2 (n = 344). The measurement tool adaptation process was conducted on 14 items in two dimensions, namely loss of self-trust and peer disagreement, based on the cross-cultural adaptation of psychological instruments by Borsa, Damásio, and Bandeira (2012). The model was tested for fit using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and obtained the final modified index values with the following details x^2 = 134.251, df = 75, p < .001, CMIN/DF = 1.790, RMSEA = 0.077 (≤ 0.08), SRMR = 0.052 (≤ 0.08), CFI = 0.921 (> 0.90), and TLI = 0.904 (> 0.90). The validity test is also supported by the results of Pearson's correlation of r = 0.775 in convergent validity testing using the Gaslighting Behaviour Questionnaire (GBQ) and divergent validity of r = - 0.279 with The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). The discriminant validity test with the Big Five Inventory (BFI) shows a correlation of r = - 0.089 (extraversion), r = - 0.031 (agreeableness), r = - 0.098 (conscientiousness), r = 0.260 (neuroticism), and r = - 0.020 (openness). Finally, the reliability analysis results obtained fall into the high category with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of α = 0.874.
