Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis diyakini dapat membantu siswa untuk menangani masalah baru di era abad 21. Siswa harus dilatih berpikir kritis sejak dini, terutama saat sekolah dasar. Namun, sejumlah penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa sekolah dasar memiliki tingkat pemikiran kritis yang rendah. Pendekatan Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) berbantuan scratch adalah salah satu inovasi pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan untuk mendukung kemampuan berpikir kritis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis 1) pengaruh penerapan pendekatan STEM berbantuan scratch terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis; 2) peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sekolah dasar yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan STEM berbantuan scratch lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan inkuiri. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SDN Dewisari 3 dan SDN Kertasari 2 di Kecamatan Rengasdengklok Kabupaten Karawang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent control group design pada pembelajaran IPAS materi pembelajaran Gaya di Sekitar Kita di kelas IV sekolah dasar dengan jumlah sampel 60 siswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu tes dan observasi. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah 1) penerapan pendekatan STEM berbantuan scratch memberikan pengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sebesar 54%; 2) peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran IPAS menggunakan pendekatan STEM berbantuan scratch lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan inkuiri. Peneliti selanjutnya direkomendasikan melakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan pendekatan STEM berbantuan scratch terhadap indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis lainnya. ----- Critical thinking skills can help students to deal with new problems in the 21st century era. Students should be trained to think critically from an early age, especially during elementary school. However, a number of studies show that elementary school students have low levels of critical thinking. The Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) approach assisted by scratch is one of the learning innovations that can be used to support critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze 1) the effect of the application of the STEM approach assisted by scratch on critical thinking skills; 2) the improvement of critical thinking skills of elementary school students who get learning with the STEM approach assisted by scratch is better than students who get learning with the inquiry approach. This research was conducted at SDN Dewisari 3 and SDN Kertasari 2 in Rengasdengklok District, Karawang Regency. The type of research used is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design on learning IPAS learning with the subject is Forces Around Us in class IV elementary school with a total sample of 60 students. The research instruments used were tests and observations. The conclusions obtained from this study are 1) the application of the STEM approach assisted by scratch has an influence on students' critical thinking skills by 54%; 2) the increase in critical thinking skills of students who get IPAS learning using the STEM approach assisted by scratch is better than students who get learning with the inquiry approach. Further researchers are recommended to conduct research using the STEM approach assisted by scratch on other critical thinking ability indicators.
