Abstract
Problem solving skills should be a focus in math at school, particularly in an elementary schools. To solve the question of problem solving, it needs a specific strategies which can be used as a way to facilitate students in solving mathematical problems easier. Due to the many students with mathematical problem solving ability is very low, so this study aims to describe students' mathematical problem solving skills through investigation approach and without investigation approach. The method used is a quasi experimentdesign posttest-only using a population of fourth grade elementary students in CihideungTasikmalaya. The sample of this study consists of two classes, class IVA of SDN Nagarawangi 2 as the experimental group and class IVB SDN Nagarawangi 2 as the control group. The instrument of data collection is through posttest questions of problem solving ability about the area of parallelogram. The results of this research showed that: (1) the students’ ability in solving the mathematic problem using an investigation approach included into a high category (2) the students’ ability in solving mathematic problem without using investigation approach included into a low category; (3) the learning process by using a mathematical approach is students centered-learning; (4) the students’ ability in solving mathematic problem using investigation approach is higher than without using investigation approach. Keywords:problem solving, investigation approach Kemampuan pemecahan masalah harus menjadi fokus dalam pelajaran matematika di sekolah, khususnya di sekolah dasar. Dalam menyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah, perlu adanya strategi khusus yang bisa dijadikan cara untuk memudahkan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Dikarenakan masih banyak siswadengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika yang sangat rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa melalui pendekatan investigasi dan tanpa pendekatan investigasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi experiment desainposttest-only dengan populasi siswa kelas IV SD di kecamatan Cihideung kota Tasikmalaya. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu kelas IVA SDN Nagarawangi 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan siswa kelas IVB SDN Nagarawangi 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen pengumpulan data melalui penyusunan soal posttest kemampuan pemecahan masalah tentang luas daerah jajargenjang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa menggunakan pendekatan investigasi termasuk kedalam kategori sangat tinggi; (2) kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa tanpa menggunakan pendekatan investigasi termasuk kedalam kategori rendah; (3) proses pembelajaran matematika dengan menggunakan pendekatan investigasi lebih berpusat pada siswa; (4) kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa menggunakan pendekatan investigasi lebih tinggi dari siswa yang tanpa menggunakan pendekatan investigasi.
