Abstract

This research is motivated by the low science literacy skills of students about water cycle material, as well as the limitations of learning media, especially digital-based media. The research aims to develop a product in the form of a “Pluvio” media game based on problem-based learning to improve the science literacy of fifth-grade elementary school students in the aspect of science competence regarding water cycle material. The Design and Development method with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) was applied in this study, with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The research subjects involved material experts, media experts, linguists, learning practitioners, and fifth-grade elementary school students. Overall, the game media “Pluvio” is very feasible to use with an average overall score of 87%, including media validation from material experts of 95% with very feasible criteria, from media experts of 93% with very feasible criteria, from linguists of 75% with feasible criteria, and assessment from students as a form of response to the media of 90% with very feasible criteria. The achievement of science competency aspects in the pretest results was 45%, increased in the posttest results with an achievement of 82%. The level of effectiveness of the game media “Pluvio” through the N-gain test obtained an average value of 0.66 which is in the medium category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the “Pluvio” game media is said to be effective and very feasible to be used as a medium in improving students' science literacy regarding scientific competence regarding water cycle material.
