Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesulitan siswa dalam membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris yang disebabkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa masih kurang. Metode mind mapping menjadi salah satu metode pembelajaran yang dapat membantu siswa memahami informasi penting dari suatu teks bacaan. Dengan mencatat informasi penting dari suatu teks ke dalam bentuk mind map, siswa akan lebih mudah memahami isi teks yang dibacanya. Tujuan dilaksanakan penelitian ini adalah untuk 1) mendeskripsikan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa sebelum menerapkan metode mind mapping; 2) mendeskripsikan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa setelah menerapkan metode mind mapping; dan 3) mendeskripsikan efektivitas penerapan metode mind mapping terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-eksperimen dengan one group pre test post test design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VA SDN 4 Kertasari yang berjumlah 24 orang dengan teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu sampel jenuh. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes kemampuan membaca pemahaman dan lembar observasi. Hasil pengolahan dan analisis data menunjukkan bahwa : 1) Kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa sebelum menerapkan metode mind mapping berada pada kategori sangat tinggi, tinggi, sedang, rendah, dan sangat rendah dengan rata-rata skor pre test 12,75; 2) Kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa setelah menerapkan metode mind mapping mengalami peningkatan yaitu berada pada kategori sangat tinggi, tinggi, dan sedang, dengan rata-rata skor pre test 18,25; 3) Penerapan metode mind mapping efektif terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah dasar. Mind mapping method to be one of learning method that can be used in learning to make students understand the contents of the english text. By writing the important information from a text into the form of a mind map, the students will more easily understand the text content which they have read. The purpose of this research are to 1) describe the elementary school student’s ability of reading comprehension about english text before applying the mind mapping method; 2) describe the elementary school student’s ability of reading comprehension about english text after applying the mind mapping method; and 3) describe the effectiveness of the application of mind mapping method toward the elementary school student’s ability of reading comprehension about english text. The method of this research is pre-experimental with one group pre test-post test design. The population of this research is fifth grade of SDN 4 Kertasari about 24 students with sampling technique that saturated samples . The instrument used is the reading comprehension test and observation sheets. The results of the processing and analyzing of data showed that 1) the elementary school student’s ability of reading comprehension about english text before applying the mind mapping method is on a category of very high, high, medium, low, and very low with an average score of pre test 12,75; 2) describe the elementary school student’s ability of reading comprehension about english text after applying the mind mapping method is on a category very high, high and medium with an average score of pre test 18,25; and 3) the application of mind mapping method is effective toward the elementary school student’s ablity of reading comprehension about english text.
