Abstract

Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing di Indonesia menjadi isu penting di tengah kemajuan teknologi dan ilmu pengetahuan pada masa globalisasi di era revolusi industri 4.0 saat ini. Ditemukan adanya pemahaman yang rendah terhadap reading comprehension yang merupakan skill utama dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Salah satu solusi dengan pemilihan strategi pembelajaran dan media pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik peserta didik. Dalam strategi pembelajaran membaca, strategi Directed Reading and Thinking Activity (DRTA) merupakan salah satu strategi cooperative learning yang cocok digunakan dalam pembelajaran membaca. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif Pre-experimental Design. Desain yang digunakan yaitu One Group Pretest-Posttest. Hasil penelitian terdapat peningkatan reading comprehension siswa dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA dilihat dengan cara membandingkan data hasil pretest dan posttest siswa. Pada kondisi awal kemampuan reading comprehension siswa hanya berada pada rata-rata 5,8. Sedangkan pada kondisi akhir kemampuan reading comprehension siswa memiliki hasil rata-rata 7,8. Peningkatan reading comprehension dapat diperkuat berdasarkan nilai N-gain yang diperoleh. Rata-rata N-gain sebesar 0,521 yang menunjukkan kategori sedang. Pengaruh strategi DRTA berbantuan game The Story Emporium dalam meningkatkan reading comprehension siswa dapat ditinjau dari hasil uji regresi. Berdasarkan hasil uji regresi diperoleh hasil R square atau R-kuadrat sebesar 0,359 atau dalam presentasi menjadi 35,9%. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat pengaruh sebesar 35,9% saat penerapan strategi DRTA berbantuan game The Story Emporium terhadap reading comprehension siswa kelas IV di SDN 1 Kembang Kuning. ----- Learning English as a foreign language in Indonesia is an important issue amidst the advancement of technology and science during globalization in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. It was found that there is a low understanding of reading comprehension which is the main skill in the English learning process. One solution is the selection of learning strategies and learning media that are in accordance with the characteristics of students. In reading learning strategy, Directed Reading and Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy is one of the cooperative learning strategies that is suitable to be used in reading learning. This research uses a quantitative approach Pre-experimental Design. The design used is One Group Pretest-Posttest. The results of the study showed an increase in students' reading comprehension by using the DRTA strategy by comparing the data of students' pretest and posttest results. In the initial condition, the students' reading comprehension ability was only at an average of 5.8. While in the final condition the students' reading comprehension ability has an average result of 7.8. The increase in reading comprehension can be strengthened based on the N-gain value obtained. The average N-gain is 0.521 which shows a moderate category. The effect of DRTA strategy assisted by The Story Emporium game in improving students' reading comprehension can be seen from the regression test results. Based on the results of the regression test, the results of R square or R-squared are 0.359 or in percentage to 35.9%. This proves that there is an influence of 35.9% when applying the DRTA strategy assisted by The Story Emporium game to the reading comprehension of grade IV students at SDN 1 Kembang Kuning.
