Abstract

“PENERAPAN MODEL DUAL – CODING DALAM PEMBELAJARAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR IPS SISWA (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas di SMP Negeri 3 Mande Kabupaten Cianjur)” Dibimbing oleh, Prof. Dr. H. Dadang Supardan, M.Pd. sebagai pembimbing I dan Prof. Helius Sjamsuddin, M.A., P.hD. sebagai pembimbing II. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa selama ini pembelajaran IPS belum mempertimbangkan cara pemrosesan informasi di dalam otak dengan memisahkan antara saluran verbal dengan saluran visual, yang berakibat kepada rendahnya hasil belajar siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subyek penelitian adalah kelas VII-G, terdiri dari dua puluh satu orang siswa laki-laki dan tujuh belas orang siswa perempuan, serta seorang guru mata pelajaran IPS sebagai guru mitra. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah pedoman observasi, catatan lapangan, tes hasil belajar, angket, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan reduksi data, paparan data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian menggunakan Dual-coding Theory yang dioperasionalkan oleh Meyer dan Anderson. Tindakan dilaksanakan selama dua siklus, siklus I terdiri dari dua pertemuan dan siklus II terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa rata-rata hasil belajar siswa sebelum pelaksanaan tindakan masih rendah, hanya tiga orang siswa yang nilainya mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal. Setelah pelaksanaan tindakan siklus I, rata-rata hasil belajar naik, namun hanya lima belas siswa yang nilainya mencapai atau melebihi KKM dan setelah pelaksanaan siklus II nilai hasil belajar siswa meningkat dan tiga puluh lima siswa mencapai atau melebihi nilai KKM. Bagi guru, hasil dari penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogik dan profesional. Sedangkan bagi siswa adalah memberi pengalaman belajar baru untuk membangun sendiri pengetahuannya dengan bantuan gambar. Kendala yang dihadapi selama pelaksanaan tindakan adalah guru belum memahami prinsip-prinsip Dual-Coding Theory dan siswa yang pasif. Cara mengatasi kendala adalah melakukan diskusi intensif dengan Guru Mitra dalam refleksi dan menggunakan metode “Roda Berantai”. Kata Kunci: Dual-Coding Theory, IPS, Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, Hasil Belajar "APPLICATION OF DUAL - CODING MODEL OF LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENT’ SOCIAL STUDIES LEARNING OUTCOMES (Classroom Action Research in SMP Negeri 3 Mande Cianjur)" Supervised by Prof.. Dr.. H. Dadang Supardan, M.Pd. as a supervisor I and Prof. Helius Sjamsuddin, M.A., P.hD. as supervisor II. This research came by the fact that during this learning social studies have not considered how the information processing in the brain by separating the verbal channel with visual channels, which resulted in a lack of student learning outcomes. The method used in this study is action research. Subjects were class VII-G, consisting of twenty-one boys and seventeen girls, as well as a social studies teacher as teacher partner. The instruments used are observation, field notes, achievement test, questionnaire, interview and documentation. Data analysis using data reduction, exposure data and drawing conclusions. Research using the Dual-coding Theory which is operated by Meyer and Anderson. Actions carried out during two cycles, the first cycle consisted of two meetings and the second cycle consists of three meetings. The results showed that the average student learning outcomes prior to implementation of the action is still low, only three students were valued at a minimum completeness criteria. After the implementation of cycle I, the average result of learning gained, but only fifteen students whose value reaches or exceeds the KKM and after the implementation of the second cycle increases the value of student learning outcomes and thirty-five students reach or exceed the KKM. For teachers, the results of this research is to improve the pedagogical and professional competence. As for the students is to provide a new learning experience to build their own knowledge with the help of images. Obstacles encountered during the implementation of the action is not teachers understand the principles of Dual-Coding Theory and the students are passive. How to overcome obstacles is to conduct intensive discussions with the Teachers Partners in reflection and using the "Wheel Chain".
