Abstract

Kemampuan pemahaman relasional merupakan kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan suatu prosedur dan mengetahui mengapa menggunakan prosedur tersebut serta dapat mengaitkan satu ide dengan ide lainnya. Kemampuan ini dapat menggambarkan sejauh mana pemahaman siswa dalam suatu konsep. Kesulitan siswa dalam memiliki kemampuan pemahaman relasional mempengaruhi capaian kemampuan siswa tersebut. Selain itu, salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi proses siswa dalam memiliki kemampuan pemahaman relasional adalah daya juang produktif yang mengacu pada upaya siswa dalam menghadapi kesulitan yang dihadapi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemahaman relasional siswa dalam memecahkan masalah kontekstual, kesulitan yang dihadapi saat menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual, daya juang produktif siswa saat menghadapi kesulitan dalam proses menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual serta pembelajaran apa yang mampu mengakomodasi kemampuan pemahaman relasional dan daya juang produktif siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode fenomenologi dengan pendekatan kualitatif yang dilaksanakan pada tiga SMP Negeri di kota Bandung, dengan melibatkan 93 siswa kelas VIII yang telah mempelajari materi sifat-sifat bangun datar, aljabar dan bilangan bulat. Subjek penelitian dipilih berdasarkan hasil tes kemampuan pemahaman relasional yang di kategorikan menjadi tinggi, sedang dan rendah. Data dalam penelitian ini berasal dari tes kemampuan pemahaman relasional, angket daya juang produktif dan wawancara. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas siswa memiliki kemampuan pemahaman relasional pada kategori sedang sebanyak 68%, siswa dengan daya juang produktif pada kategori sedang paling banyak yaitu 73%. Pembelajaran yang mampu mengakomodasi kemampuan pemahaman relasional dan daya juang produktif diantaranya pembelajaran yang mampu membangun motivasi siswa, memberikan masalah yang menantang, penerapan bantuan yang mendorong, memberikan waktu, menekankan proses pembelajaran sama pentingnya dengan hasil dan pembelajaran yang menggunakan masalah kontekstual. Relational understanding ability is the ability of students to use a procedure and know why to use the procedure and can relate one idea to another. This ability can illustrate the extent of students' understanding of a concept. Students' difficulties in having relational understanding skills affect the achievement of these students' abilities. In addition, one of the factors that influence students' process in having relational understanding skills is productive struggle which refers to students' efforts in dealing with the difficulties faced. This research aims to describe students' relational understanding ability in solving contextual problems, difficulties faced when solving contextual problems, students' productive struggle when facing difficulties in the process of solving contextual problems and what learning can accommodate students' relational understanding ability and productive struggle. This research used phenomenological method with qualitative approach which was conducted in three public junior high schools in Bandung city, involving 93 grade VIII students who had studied the properties of flat buildings, algebra and integers. The research subjects were selected based on the results of the relational understanding ability test which was categorized into high, medium and low. The data in this study came from the relational understanding ability test, productive struggle questionnaire and interviews. The research findings show that the majority of students have relational understanding ability in the moderate category as much as 68%, students with productive struggle in the moderate category are 73%. Learning that is able to accommodate relational understanding ability and productive struggle includes learning that is able to build student motivation, provide challenging problems, apply encouraging assistance, provide time, emphasize the learning process as important as the results and learning that uses contextual problems.
