Abstract

Kebebasan dalam menuntut ilmu merupakan hak mutlak mahasiswa untuk mengasah kemampuannya masing-masing. Salah satu cara yang cukup diminati, di kalangan mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Korea yaitu studi ke Korea. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi cara mahasiswa internasional beradaptasi dengan budaya Korea dalam rangka menyelesaikan studi di Korea dengan cara menganalisis tentang bagaimana cara mahasiswa internasional beradaptasi dengan budaya Korea serta cara mahasiswa memahami budaya Korea dan menerapkannya sebagai usaha penyelesaian studi di Korea. Perwakilan mahasiswa tersebut merupakan penerima program beasiswa kerja sama antara perguruan tinggi Indonesia dan Korea di Seoul serta Asan. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode kualitatif dengan teknik wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan hasil menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki pemahaman yang baik tentang budaya Korea tercermin dari pengalaman budaya yang diceritakan. Adaptasi mahasiswa mereka sejalan dengan proses adaptasi Kim Young Yun, dimulai dari stres namun berakhir dengan kesuksesan menyelesaikan studi. Pengalaman budaya diakui membantu mahasiswa dalam proses studi mereka, memungkinkan mereka lebih terbiasa dengan budaya setempat dan memahami norma-norma yang berlaku. Temuan ini menekankan peran penting pengalaman budaya dalam membantu adaptasi dan kesuksesan akademis mahasiswa internasional. Diharapkan penelitian ini dapat membantu menyoroti peran penting pengalaman budaya dalam membantu mahasiswa internasional menyelesaikan studi mereka di luar negeri. Freedom to study is the absolute right of students to hone their respective abilities. One way that is quite popular among students majoring in Korean is studying in Korea. This research aims to explore how international students adapt to Korean culture to complete their studies in Korea by analyzing how international students adapt to Korean culture and how students understand Korean culture and apply it as an effort to complete their studies in Korea. The student representatives are recipients of a collaborative scholarship program between Indonesian and Korean universities in Seoul and Asan. The method used is a qualitative method with semi-structured interview techniques, with the results showing that students have a good understanding of Korean culture as reflected in the cultural experiences described. The students’ adaptation is in line with Kim Young Yun’s adaptation process, starting from stress but ending with the successful completion of their studies. Cultural experiences are recognized to help students in their study process, enabling them to become more familiar with the local culture and understand applicable norms. These findings emphasize the important role of cultural experiences in assisting international students’ academic adaptation and success. It is hoped that this research can help highlight the important role of cultural experiences in helping international students complete their studies abroad.
