Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan karena ingin mengetahui mengenai dinamika perubahan persepsi mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD FIP UPI dan kesamaannya dengan perubahan yang dialami peneliti sendiri sebagai salah satu mahasiswa laki-laki yang berada di PGPAUD FIP UPI setelah menjalani masa kuliah selama minimal dua tahun. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang persepsi mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD FIP UPI terhadap ranah PAUD dan bagaimana mereka mengatasi stereotipe gender dan stigma secara umum ditinjau dari dinamika perubahan persepsi mereka. Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian naratif yang menjadikan peneliti sebagai nara sumber utama beserta ketiga mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD FIP UPI sebagai nara sumber lainnya. Hasil dari penelitian mendapati empat tema besar sebagai berikut: (a) Realita persepsi mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD mengenai pandangan masyarakat terhadap PAUD; (b) Persepsi mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD tentang stigma dan stereotipe gender di ranah PAUD; (c) Faktor yang esensial dalam upaya memilih dan menetap di PGPAUD; dan (d) Manfaat dari PGPAUD serta prospek kerja yang disediakan. Dengan demikian dinamika perubahan persepsi mahasiswa laki-laki PGPAUD FIP UPI terhadap PAUD terjadi dan cenderung mengarah keperubahan persepsi yang positif seperti terbantahnya stereotipe gender di ranah PAUD bagi mahasiswa laki-laki dan mendapatkan kebermanfaatan dalam kehidupan. This research was conducted to understand the dynamic changes in perception of male early childhood education (ECE) students at theFaculty of Education, UPI, and the similarities with the changes experienced by the researcher himself as one of the male ECE students at the same institution after undergoing a minimum of two years of study. The purpose of conducting this research is to obtain an overview of male Early Childhood Education (PGPAUD) stundents’ perceptions at the Faculty of Education (FIP), UPI towards the realm of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) and how they overcome gender stereotypes and stigma in general, as observed through the dynamics of their changing perceptions. The research approach employed in this study is qualitative, using a narrative research method that positions the researcher as the main narrative source, along with three other male ECE students from the same faculty as secondary narrative sources. The elaboration obtained from the research findings consists of four major themes, namely: (a) The reality of male Early Childhood Education (PGPAUD) students’ perception regarding society’s views on Early Childhood Education; (b) Male PGPAUD students’ perceptions of gender stigma and stereotypes in the realm of Early Childhood Education; (c) Essential factor in the effort to choose and enroll in PGPAUD; and (d) The benefits of PGPAUD and the provided job prospects. Thus, the dynamics of changing perceptions among male Early Childhood Education (PGPAUD) students at the Faculty of Education (FIP), UPI towards Early Childhood Education (PAUD) are occurring and tend to lead to positive changes, such as the debunking of gender stereotypes in the realm of Early Childhood Education for male students, and gaining benefits in their lives.
