Abstract

Japanese sentence patterns are one of the obstacles for Japanese language learners. Therefore, this study aims to determine the development of students' abilities in learning sentence patterns, especially in basic Japanese sentence patterns after the application of the Feynman technique, as well as to find out how students respond to the application of the Feynman technique. This research used pure experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Lembang with a research sample of 38 students of phase f+ Japanese class 2 in the academic year 2023/2024 with the number of experimental class students totaling 19 and the control class totaling 19. The instruments used in this study were tests and questionnaires. The results of the data analysis after giving the Feynman technique treatment, showed that there was an increase in the average score of the experimental class students. The acquisition of the tcount value obtained based on the posttest results shows that the tcount value is smaller than the ttable value, which means that there is no significant change between the experimental class and the control class. Then the working hypothesis is rejected. For the questionnaire data, most students responded positively to the application of the Feynman technique, although the students' answers regarding the understanding of the application of the Feynman technique were 55% had understood and 5% of students had understood very well, but 40% of other students still felt that they did not understand the benefits of applying the Feynman technique. Based on the results of the data obtained, it can be concluded that the application of the Feynman technique is less effective in learning basic Japanese sentence patterns.
