Abstract
This research is motivated by the curriculum in the educational process, but in reality it is dynamic or changing until now a new policy has emerged, namely the kurikulum merdeka. Each change brings up characteristics in the concept to its application so that it will affect the role of the principal in implementing the curriculum in the education unit. This study aims to explain the role of the principal in implementing the kurikulum merdeka in kindergarten. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research was conducted at Khas Daarut Tauhiid Kindergarten in Bandung which involved the principal as a participant. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews and documentation studies. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to produce the following findings: 1) Planning includes the principal conducting a context analysis, following the selection and socializing it to the institution, teachers and parents, 2) Implementation includes monitoring and the principal's strategy in integrating the independent curriculum with the institution's unique curriculum, 3) Evaluation is carried out continuously from planning, implementation to the results of feedback from parents, 4) The data obtained from the evaluation becomes the basis for the principal in formulating strategies and efforts as a follow-up to the evaluation results. The results of this study can be used as a reference for school principals in fulfilling their role when implementing an kurikulum merdeka. The researcher recommends that future research involve more participants or even those who implement the kurikulum merdeka but do not join the driving school program so that it can provide a more detailed explanation of the principal's role in implementing the kurikulum merdeka in kindergarten.
