Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam pembelajaran menulis, khususnya menulis teks deskripsi. Sebagian besar siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam mendeskripsikan objek secara rinci dan lengkap, sehingga teks deskripsi yang dihasilkan kurang mendalam dan tidak sesuai dengan kriteria penilaian yang ada. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji coba apakah penerapan teknik permainan Undercover dalam pembelajaran menulis teks deskripsi efektif atau tidak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non- equivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Cihampelas. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII-2 sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan siswa kelas VII-3 sebagai kelompok pembanding yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan dan angket. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan aplikasi SPSS, diketahui nilai signifikansi 0,001<0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa yang menggunakan teknik permainan undercover di kelas eksperimen dengan siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran terlangsung di kelas pembanding. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik permainan Undercover dalam pembelajaran menulis teks deskripsi terbukti efektif. This research is motivated by the low writing proficiency of students, especially in writing descriptive texts. Most students face difficulties in providing detailed and comprehensive descriptions of objects, resulting in shallow descriptive texts. Additionally, their understanding of descriptive text materials is also limited. The completeness of the structure and language usage in students' work does not meet the assessment criteria. The aim of this study is to test whether the application of the Undercover game technique in teaching descriptive text writing is effective or not. The method used in this research is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study consists of students from class VII of SMPN 1 Cihampelas. The samples used are students from class VII-2 as the experimental group and students from class VII-3 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in this study include ability tests and questionnaires. Based on the hypothesis test results using SPSS application, it is found that the significance value is 0.001<0.05. This indicates a significant difference between the writing ability of students who used the Undercover game technique in the experimental group compared to students who received conventional teaching in the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the Undercover game technique in teaching descriptive text writing has proven to be effective.
