Abstract

Rendahnya motivasi belajar peserta didik terhadap pembelajaran matematika menjadi faktor penyebab minimnya minat pembelajaran matematika. Pada jenjang PAUD, pembelajaran matematika umumnya ditekankan pada pengenalan angka, simbol dan aktifitas berhitung, padahal terdapat banyak kemampuan matematis yang harus distimulasi, salah satunya adalah spatial awareness. Spatial awareness dapat menjadi peletak dasar pemahaman konsep matematika yang akan bermanfaat pada bidang STEM bagi masa depan anak. Namun, spatial awareness masih jarang terstimulasi dan belum menjadi prioritas dalam pebelajaran matematika bagi anak usia dini. Ketersediaan media pembelajaran di bidang tersebut seperti buku interaktif masih minim dan belum banyak digunakan. Padahal media pembelajaran seperti buku interaktif memiliki daya stimulasi yang baik bagi kemampuan critical literacy yang menunjang pemahaman spatial awareness bagi anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media guna menstimulasi spatial awareness dan critical literacy (predicting outcome) yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan karakteristik belajar anak. Penelitian ini menggundakan metode Educational Design Research dengan melibatkan kepala sekolah, guru dan anak usia dini serta dua orang ahli materi dan media pembelajaran. Proses pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini meliputi wawancara, studi dokumentasi, dan rating scale. Data di proses secara kualitatif melalui reduksi data dan kuantitaif melalui presentase rating scale. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penggunaan media memperoleh kategori “sangat baik dan layak” digunakan dan dimanfaatkan sebagai media pembelajaran. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu diperoleh sebuah media bernama spatial playbook yang telah teruji kelayakannya untuk mestimulasi spatial awareness dan critical literacy bagi anak usia dini. ----- Students' learning motivation towards learning mathematics is still low, this is a factor causing the lack of interest in learning mathematics. In early childhood education level, learning mathematics is generally emphasized through the introduction of numbers, symbols and counting activities, even though there are many mathematical abilities that must be stimulated and one of them is spatial awareness. Spatial awareness can lay the foundation for understanding mathematical concepts that will be beneficial in the STEM field for the future of children. However, spatial awareness is rarely stimulated and has not become a priority in learning mathematics for early childhood. The availability of learning media in this field such as interactive books is still minimal and not widely used. Even though learning media such as interactive books have good stimulating power for critical literacy skills which support understanding spatial awareness for children. Thus, the authors intend to develop media to stimulate spatial awareness and critical literacy (predicting outcome) that suit the needs and learning characteristics of children. This study used the Educational Design Research method involving school principals, teachers and early childhood as well as two material and learning media experts. The process of collecting data from this study includes interviews, documentation studies, and rating scales. The data is processed qualitatively through data reduction and quantitatively through the percentage rating scale. The results of the validity test and trial use of the media obtained the category "very good and feasible" to be used and utilized as learning media. The result of this research is to obtain a media called spatial playbook which has been tested for its feasibility to stimulate spatial awareness and critical literacy for early childhood.
