Abstract

Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan Bahasa matematika untuk mengekspresikan ide-ide matematis dalam bentuk simbol, gambar, diagram, angka, dan kalimat matematika. Salah satu faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi kemapuan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah motivasi belajar dan juga terdapat menurut Kamid (2008) perbedaan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa perempuan dengan siswa laki-laki. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP berdasarkan motivasi belajar dan gender. Indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis pada penelitian ini terdiri dari mengekspresikan ide-ide matematis, menuliskan jawaban yang lengkap dan penjelasan yang jelas dari suatu permasalahan, serta menyatakan peristiwa sehari-hari ke dalam Bahasa atau simbol matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif fenomonologi. Data yang dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen angket motivasi belajar, soal tes komunikasi matematis, dan wawancara. Hasil Penelitian ini adalah (1) Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa berdasarkan dengan motivasi belajar disimpulkan bahwa siswa dengan motivasi belajar tinggi sudah mampu memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, sedangkan siswa dengan motivasi belajar sedang cenderung mampu memenuhi dan siswa dengan motivasi belajar rendah cenderung belum memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, (2) Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa berdasarkan gender disimpulkan bahwa siswa laki-laki mampu memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis sedangkan siswa perempuan cenderung belum mampu memenuhi indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, (3) Kemampuan komunikasi siswa berdasarkan motivasi belajar dan gender disimpulkan bahwa siswa laki-laki dengan motivasi belajar tinggi dan motivasi belajar sedang mampu memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, sedangkan siswa laki-laki dengan motivasi belajar rendah hanya mampu memenuhi indikator menyatakan peristiwa sehari-hari ke dalam Bahasa atau simbol matematika. Untuk siswa perempuan dengan motivasi belajar tinggi dan motivasi belajar sedang mampu mengekspresikan ide-ide matematika ke dalam tulisan serta menyatakan peristiwa sehari-hari ke dalam Bahasa atau simbol matematika. Sedangkan untuk siswa perempuan dengan motivasi belajar rendah hanya mampu mengekspresikan ide-ide matematika ke dalam tulisan. Students' mathematical communication ability is the ability of students to use mathematical language to express mathematical ideas in the form of symbols, pictures, diagrams, numbers, and mathematical sentences. One of the factors that can affect students' mathematical communication skills is learning motivation and according to Kamid (2008) there are differences in the mathematical communication skills of female students and male students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the mathematical communication skills of junior high school students based on learning motivation and gender. The indicators of mathematical communication ability in this study consisted of expressing mathematical ideas, writing down complete answers and clear explanations of a problem, and expressing everyday events in language or mathematical symbols. This study uses phenomonological qualitative research. Data were collected using learning motivation questionnaires, mathematical communication test questions, and interviews. The results of this study were (1) students' mathematical communication abilities based on learning motivation concluded that students with high learning motivation were able to fulfill all indicators of mathematical communication abilities, while students with medium learning motivation tended to be able to fulfill them and students with low learning motivation tended not to have fulfilled all indicators of mathematical communication ability, (2) students' mathematical communication ability based on gender it was concluded that male students were able to fulfill all indicators of mathematical communication ability while female students tended not to be able to fulfill the indicators of mathematical communication ability, (3) student's communication ability based on learning motivation and gender it was concluded that male students with high learning motivation and moderate learning motivation were able to fulfill all indicators of mathematical communication skills, while male students with low learning motivation were only able to fulfill the indicators of expressing everyday events into language or mathematical symbols. For female students with high learning motivation and moderate learning motivation, they are able to express mathematical ideas in writing and express everyday events in language or mathematical symbols. Meanwhile, female students with low learning motivation were only able to express mathematical ideas in writing.
