Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa Sekolah Dasar di Desa Situmandala yang terlihat dari banyaknya siswa yang hanya hafal rumus tapi tidak mengerti tujuan dan maksud rumus tersebut. Dari permasalahan tersebut siswa jadi kurang percaya diri dan kurang antusias dalam pembelajaran matematika. Hal ini mengakibatkan rendahnya nilai ujian siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya pendekatan yang diharapkan siswa dapat lebih mudah dalam memahami pembelajaran matematika, diantaranya yaitu dengan pendekatan STEAM. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah menerapkan pendekatan STEAM. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain pre eksperimental design bentuk one group pretest-posttest design. Hasil analisis uji Paired Sample T-Test menunjukan nilai sig. 0,000. Dengan adanya kaidah keputusan 0,000 lebih kecil dari 0,05 maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima. Hasil tersebut menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah menerapkan pendekatan STEAM (Ha diterima). Jadi terdapat peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa setelah menerapkan pendekatan STEAM pada pembelajaran matematika. Kata Kunci: STEAM, Pemahaman Konsep Matematis, Matematika This research was motivated by the low ability to understand mathematical concepts of elementary school students in Situmandala Village, which can be seen from the number of students who only memorized the formula but did not understand the purpose and intent of the formula. From these problems students become less confident and less enthusiastic in learning mathematics. This resulted in low student test scores in learning mathematics. Therefore, it is necessary to have an approach that students hope can more easily understand learning mathematics, one of which is the STEAM approach. This study aims to determine the significant increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts before and after applying the STEAM approach. This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design in the form of one group pretest-posttest design. The results of the analysis of the Paired Sample T-Test show the sig. 0.000. With the decision rule 0.000 is less than 0.05 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. These results indicate that there is a significant increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts before and after applying the STEAM approach (Ha accepted). So there is an increase in the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts after applying the STEAM approach to learning mathematics.
