Abstract
Hal yang mendasari pelaksanaan penelitian ini adalah masih rendahnya tingkat kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa di sekolah dasar. Pemahaman matematis merupakan salah satu kemampuan dasar yang sangat penting dalam belajar matematika. Model problem based learning merupakan salah satu model pembelajaran yang diduga mampu memberikan dampak positif terhadap masalah rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk; (1) mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa kelas IV; (2) mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang menggunakan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) lebih baik dari siswa yang diberikan pembelajaran konvensional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent control group design yaitu dengan memberikan pre-test dan post-test kepada dua kelompok yang berbeda untuk pembelajaran matematika pokok bahasan luas dan keliling bangun datar. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada dua kelompok kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan masing-masing siswa sebanyak 35 siswa di salah satu sekolah dasar negeri kabupaten Purwakarta. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis berbentuk uraian. Hasil penelitiannya adalah; (1) terdapat pengaruh penerapan model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa di sekolah dasar; (2) peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang menerapkan model problem based learning lebih baik secara signifikansi dari siswa yang menerapkan model pembelajaran konvensional. ----- The background of this research is the low level of student’s mathematical understanding skill in elementary school. Mathematical understanding skills is one of the most important basic skills in learning mathematics. The problem based learning model is one of the learning models that is thought to be able to have a positive impact on the problem of the low level of student’s mathematical understanding skill in elementary school. This research aimed to; (1) know the effect of using the problem based learning model; (2) know the improvement of mathematical understanding skills of students who use problem based learning model are better than students who are given convensional learning. The research method used is quasi experimental with a non-equivalent control group design namely by giving pretest and posttest to the two different groups for learning mathematics on the subject wide and around flat shape. This research was conducted in two class groups, that is the experimental class and control class, with each student as many as 35 students in one of the elementary school in Purwakarta district. The research instrument used was a test of mathematical understanding in the form of a description. Research result are; (1) there is an effect of applying the problem based learning model to the students mathematical understanding skills in elementary school; (2) the increase in students mathematical understanding skills who apply the problem based learning model is significantly better than students who apply conventional learning model.
