Abstract
Berbagai upaya yang dilakukan untuk mencegah adanya kelebihan beban kognitif siswa pada proses pembelajaran. Beban kognitif di dalam memori kerja terdiri dari tiga komponen, yaitu intrinsic cognitive load (ICL), extraneous cognitive load (ECL) dan germane cognitive load (GCL). Ketiga komponen tersebut akan membentuk skema kognitif yang akan disimpan dalam memori jangka panjang siswa. Penelitian ini berjudul beban kognitif siswa pada praktikum ekosistem di luar kelas, memiliki tujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan kegiatan praktikum diluar kelas terhadap beban kognitif siswa. Latar belakang dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah pemberian materi ekosistem tidak jarang dilakukan hanya dengan metode ceramah dengan didukung media audiovisual, sehingga siswa belum dibiasakan untuk mengobservasi secara langsung di lingkungan yang sebenarnya. Diperlukan sebuah strategi dalam pembelajaran ekosistem agar pemahaman materi pelajaran ini dapat berpengaruh positif terhadap proses kognitif siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Quasi Eksperiment dengan tiga instrumen pengumpul data. Instrumen pertama digunakan untuk mendapatkan hasil data Mengolah dan Memroses Informasi (MMI) untuk menganalisis ICL, instrumen kedua untuk mendapatkan hasil data Usaha Mental (UM) untuk menganalisis ECL siswa dan instrumen terakhir diberikan dua minggu setelah kegiatan praktikum untuk mendapatkan Hasil Belajar (HB) untuk menganalisis GCL siswa. Penelitian ini menghasilkan data UM – MMI memiliki korelasi negatif signifikan, UM – HB memiliki korelasi positif signifikan dan MMI – HB memiliki korelasi negatif signifikan. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa masih terdapat beban kognitif yang dialami oleh siswa selama kegiatan praktikum diluar kelas.,---Various efforts have been made to prevent cognitive overload of students in the learning process. There are three components of cognitive load are intrinsic cognitive load (ICL), extraneous cognitive load (ECL) and germane cognitive load (GCL). All three components will form a cognitive schema that will be stored in long term memory of students. This study titled the cognitive load of students on ecosystems outside the classroom practicum which the purpose of this study was to analyze the use of practical activities outside the classroom to the student's cognitive load. Moreover, the reason of this study chooses this case is the learning ecosystem material quite often only with the lecture method with the help of audiovisual media, thus that students have not been conditioned to observe directly in the actual environment. A strategy is needed in ecosystem learning in order to understand the subject matter which can be a positive influence on the students' cognitive processes. The method used in this study is Quasi Experiment with three instruments collect data. The first instrument used to obtain the results of Internal Processing (IP) to analyze the ICL, a second instrument to obtain data results Mental Effort (ME) to analyze the ECL and the last instrument was given after two weeks of practicum to get Learning Achievment (LA) for analyze GCL. This study produced data ME - IP has a significant negative correlation, ME - LA had a significant positive correlation and IP - LA had a significant negative correlation. The results of this study showed that there are cognitive load experienced by students during the practical activities outside the classroom.
