Abstract

Self-esteem amat penting peranannya dalam kehidupan setiap individu. Salah satu bentuk kegiatan pendidikan jasmani untuk mengembangkan dan menjaga self-esteem siswa adalah dengan kegiatan outdoor education. Dalam prakteknya, kegiatan outdoor education dapat dilakukan dalam bentuk kegiatan permainan-permainan ringan (soft games) dan bentuk-bentuk permainan yang sifatnya menantang dan memerlukan ketahanan fisik yang besar (hard games). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas kegiatan outdoor education baik bentuk hard games maupun soft games melalui experiential learning dalam meningkatkan self-esteem siswa Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen selama dua bulan. Instrument yang digunakan berupa angket tertutup. Populasi yang digunakan adalah siswa di SMPN 14 Kota Serang, penentuan sampel dengan menggunakan purposive sampling sebanyak 39 orang yang terdiri dari 20 orang sampel eksperimen hard games dan 19 orang sampel eksperimen soft games. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji t test baik untuk dua sampel berpasangan (pre - post), maupun untuk dua sampel bebas (hard games – soft games). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hard games dapat meningkatkan self-esteem siswa 135,45 dengan SD 5,65, dan soft games dapat meningkatkan self esteem siswa sebesar nilai rata-rata 118,16 dengan SD 4,35. Dengan data tersebut bahwa hard games lebih baik dibandingkan dengan soft games dalam meningkatkan self-esteem siswa. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai t hitung sebesar 10,67 yang lebih besar daripada nilai t tabel sebesar 2,026. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelaksanaan kegiatan outdoor education memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan self esteem siswa khususnya jika kegiatan tersebut dilakukan melalui bentuk-bentuk kegiatan hard game. Self-esteem has an enormously important role in almost everybody's life. One of physical education activities that can be done to keep and improve students' self-esteem is by doing outdoor education. In practice, outdoor education activities can be materialized by performing soft games and challenging hard games which need more physical endurance. The purpose of this research is to fully know the effectiveness of outdoor education activities both of hard games activities and soft game activities by performing experiential learning to boost students' self-esteem. This research employs experiment method done within two months. The instrument of this research is personal questionnaire. The population of this conducted research is all students at SMP 14 Kota Serang and the sample is taken by implementing purposive sampling. The number of sample is 39 persons in which 20 students are the experiment sample of hard games and 19 students are experiment sample of soft games. The data analysis technique uses t test both for two-paired-sample (pre- post) and two-unpaired-sample (hard games – soft games). The result of this research shows that the implementation of hard games could improve students' self-esteem with the average score 135,45 and SD 5,65, while soft games could enhance students' self-esteem with the average score 118,16 and SD 4,35. With those data we then can know that the hard games is better to be applied than it is the soft games in a way of building up student's self-esteem. It is proven by the score of t count 10.67 which is for sure higher than the score of t table 2.026. It is therefore we can conclude that the practice of outdoor education activities have significant influence on boosting students' self-esteem especially if the activities are done by performing hard game activities.
