Abstract

Stroke is caused by a blockage or tear in the blood vessels in the brain. Worldwide, 1 in 6 people suffers a stroke. People who have had a stroke for the first time when they are recovering have a higher risk of having another stroke. Therefore, people who have suffered a stroke need to modify their lifestyle to prevent recurrent strokes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle modification and prevention of re-stroke in post-stroke patients in the Working Area of the Tanjungsari Health Center. This quantitative descriptive correlation study with a cross-sectional approach involved 49 post-stroke patients in the Working Area of the Tanjungsari Health Center as a population, all of whom were included as samples through total sampling. The data obtained was then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, namely through the Rank Spearman correlation test. The findings of the univariate analysis found that lifestyle modification in post-stroke patients with the most results was in the adequate category (77.6%) and re-stroke prevention in post-stroke patients with the most results in the good category (87.8%). The bivariate analysis obtained a p-value of 0.010 (<α = 0.05), so that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted with sufficient relationship strength, namely the correlation coefficient value of 0.364. So from these results it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between lifestyle modification and the prevention of re-stroke in post-stroke patients in the Working Area of the Tanjungsari Health Center.
