    Abstract

This research is motivated by the widespread use of language that is not polite on social media, causing social conflicts in society. This situation is exacerbated by the absence of polite language teaching in educational institutions. This is feared to have a negative effect on the character development of students. For this reason, this study aims to analyze language politeness in the Endgame speech title by using the Leech language politeness theory. In Leech's (1983) politeness theory, there are maxims of politeness which consist of (1) maxim of wisdom, (2) maxim of generosity, (3) maxim of humility, (4) maxim of praise, (5) maxim of consensus, and (6) sympathy maxim. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze Gita Wirjawan's speech and the sources of the Endgame talk show identified as containing the value of language politeness. The results of this study found as many as 240 utterances that realized the principles of language politeness. The percentage of compliance with the politeness principle in the Endgame talk show is 84%. Meanwhile, the percentage of violations of the politeness principle in the Endgame talk show is 16%. The maxim that is most widely realized is the maxim of praise with a total of 88 utterances and the maxim that is never violated is the maxim of generosity. The results of the analysis of language politeness in the Endgame speech title can be used as a design of language politeness training materials for intra-school student organizations. The design of language politeness training materials can be used as a polite language guide for students. The conclusion of this study is that the Endgame talk show is positive content because it contains politeness values in language so that it can be used as a good example in learning Indonesian.
