Abstract
This study aims to obtain an overview of tenth-grade students understanding of three levels of chemical representation on electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions through the RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain-Create) learning model. The method used in this research was pre-experiment which aims to observe the main group and intervene throughout the study. The research design used in this study was pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 72 students, coming from one of the Senior High School in Cirebon City. The instruments used include the five-tier diagnostic test that can reveal the answers to each level of representation and student response questionnaires. This test instrument consists of 5 items that have been validated by three validators. Data processing is done through scoring and calculating the percentage to be categorized. The results of this study revealed that increasing students' understanding of three levels of chemical representation through RADEC learning model was categorized as moderate (N-gain average 0.52). Increased students understanding of the macroscopic level in the medium category, increased students understanding of the submicroscopic and symbolic levels in the medium category. In addition, the scientific conception of students on the material of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions through RADEC learning is in the medium category. Scientific conceptions show that students have the ability to relate the three levels of chemical representation.
