Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan yang ditemukan peneliti pada saat observasi awal di kelas VIII-I SMPN 44 Bandung. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, peneliti menemukan beberapa indikasi lemahnya keaktifan belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Hal ini terlihat dari pembelajaran yang terfokus pada guru atau teacher center, kurang aktifnya siswa di dalam kelas, belum mampunya siswa menjawab pertanyaan yang diajukan oleh guru dengan menggunakan analisisnya sendiri, siswa terpaku kepada buku teks dan pertanyaan yang diajukan siswa hanya sebatas pada tataran ingatan. Alternative pemecahan masalah yang menjadi pilihan peneliti yaitu dengan menerapkan metode diskusi kelompok, dimana guru memberikan serangkaian pertanyaan untuk membangkitkan kemampuan berpikir siswa baik secara lisan maupun tertulis. Meninjau permasalahan yang akan di teliti berkaitan dengan proses pembelajaran, maka peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis MC. Taggart yang dilakukan dalam 4 siklus. Peningkatan Keaktifan belajar siswa di kelas VIII-I SMPN 44 Bandung melalui metode diskusi kelompok dapat dikatakan berhasil. Berhasilnya penelitian ini dilihat dari adanya peningkatan kuantitas dan kualitas keaktifan belajar siswa yang ditunjukan melalui perkembangan aspek-aspek atau beberapa indikator keaktifan belajar. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian dilapangan dapat ditarik kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, antara lain pertama, kondisi kelas menjadi menyenangkan dan siswa ikut aktif saat pembelajaran berlangsung. Kedua, perencanaan penelitian dirancang dengan baik. Ketiga, peningkatan penerapan metode diskusi kelompok dilaksanakan semakin terarah pada setiap siklusnys. Keempat, setelah diterapkannya metode diskusi kelompok dapat menumbuhkan minat belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS sehingga penelitian untuk meningkatkan keaktifan belajar siswa berjalan dengan baik;--- This research is motivated by the problems found by researchers at the early observation in class VIII-I SMPN 44 Bandung. Based on the observation result, the researcher found some indication of the weakness of students' involvement in social sciences learning. This can be seen from the learning which was teacher-centered learning, the students who were less active in the classroom, the low students' ability in answering the questions asked by the teacher by using their own analysis, the students too demanded to the the textbook and the questions asked by students were limited to the level of remembering. The alternative problem solving which became the researcher's choice is to apply group discussion method, where the teacher gives a series of questions to arouse students' thinking skill both spoken and written. Reviewing the issues that will be investigated was related to learning process, therefore the researcher chose Classroom Action Research with Kemmis MC model Taggart which was done in 4 cycles. The improvement of students' learning involvement in class VIII-I 44 public junior high school Bandung through group discussion method can be interpreted to be successful. The success of this study was seen from the increase in the quantity and quality of students' learning involvement which was shown through the development of aspects or some indicators of learning involvement. Based on findings in the field, it can be drawn conclusions from this study, first, the classroom conditions became fun and students participate actively during the learning takes place. Second, research planning is well designed. Thirdly, the improvement of the implementation of group discussion methods was carried out more directed at each cycle. Fourth, after the implementation of the method of group discussion, it can foster students' interest in learning social studies so that research to improve students' learning involvement did well.
