Abstract

Tingginya angka Buruh Migran Perempuan (BMP) luar negeri di Indramayu menempatkan perempuan pada posisi sebagai pencari nafkah utama dalam keluarga, juga sebagai penyuplai biaya sosial tertinggi dalam masyarakat. Partial separation antara perempuan dan keluarga berdampak pada perubahan peran perempuan. Sedangkan di sisi lain, asingnya laki-laki pada ranah domestik semakin membuat rentannya kondisi keluarga ketika perempuan menjadi BMP. Tesis ini berupaya untuk merekonstruksi peran perempuan sebagai BMP pada triple roles models yang dibutuhkan guna menguatkan kembali peran perempuan dalam keluarga dan masyarakat di tengah ketidakmampuannya untuk hadir secara fisik. Ketahanan keluarga melalui ketahanan di bidang ekonomi dengan andil elit masyarakat menjadi salah satu upaya untuk menguatkan status BMP sebagai orang tua dan istri dalam kedudukannya sebagai pencari nafkah utama. Menggunakan desain fenomenologi, dengan teknik observasi dan wawancara terungkap bahwa menjadi BMP memberikan prestise tersendiri bagi perempuan melalui kepemilikan materil yang diberikan kepada keluarga, bahkan menjadi profesi tanpa misi bagi sebagian perempuan melalui pembudayaan profesi BMP di masyarakat. Rekonstruksi peran perempuan dalam keluarga BMP yang dilakukan dengan kontribusi anggota keluarga luas menempatkan perempuan pada posisi mumpuni sebagai pencari nafkah utama, istri dan sebagai orang tua dalam keluarga. Ketahanan keluarga dengan fleksibilitas peran, serta komitmen kuat anggota keluarga dibutuhkan sebagai upaya memenuhi peran dan fungsi orangtua kepada anak di dalam keluarga BMP. The numerous amount of migrant women workers (BMP) in Indramayu puts women as the main breadwinner in the family, while contributing to the high social cost in the society. The partial separation between the women and their family result in the change of women and their family’s role. On the other hand, domestic work is an unfamiliar world to the men while the family invents more vulnerable when the women work as migrant workers (BMP). This thesis attempts to reconstruct women’s role as migrant women workers in the triple roles models which are required to reinforce their role as a woman in the family and a society during their incapability to present physically in a society. The family resilience by strengthening economic condition with the engagement of elite people is one of the attempts to reinforce the status of migrant women workers as a mother and wife beside their role as a breadwinner. Using phenomenology design by observing and interviewing during data collection reveals that being a migrant woman worker permits a prestige for the woman by owning a property delivers to the family, even turn into a profession without a mission for some women through culturing of the profession of migrant women workers in the society. The reconstruction of women’s role in the family of migrant women workers is performed by the family’s contribution in placing a woman in the capable position as a breadwinner, a wife and also a mother in the family. The family resilience with a role flexibility, also a strong commitment of the family member is required as an attempt to fulfill a role and function of the parents to the children in the family of migrant women workers.
