Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil model mental siswa pada materi stoikiometri komposisi dengan menggunakan tes diagnostik model mental-interview about event (TDM-IAE). Penelitian ini dilakukan di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung dengan enam orang siswa kelas X MIPA sebagai subjek penelitian. Enam orang siswa tersebut terdiri dari siswa 1 dan 2 berkemampuan tinggi, siswa 3 dan 4berkemampuansedang, serta siswa 5 dan 6berkemampuan rendah.Penentuan kemampuan siswa ini didasarkan pada penilaian guru terhadap prestasi siswa pada mata pelajaran kimia selama satu semester. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif dan instrumen yang digunakan berupa TDM-IAE.Tahapan pertama analisis data yaitu hasil wawancara dibuat transkripsi wawancara dalam bentuk tulisan, tahap keduadibuat interpretasi jawaban siswa dan tahap ketiga dibuat profil model mental siswa. Berdasarkan penelitian,diketahui kategori profil model mental siswa 1 adalah PC-2 yakni siswa mampu menentukan rumus molekul tetapi tidak sepenuhnya mengusai hukum perbandingan tetap, massa atom relatif, massa molekul relatif, konsep mol, komposisi unsur dan rumus empiris sehingga kurang tepat dalam menjelaskan makna rumus molekul. Kategori profil model mental siswa 2, 4, dan 5 adalah PC-1 yakni siswa mampu menentukan rumus molekul tetapi tidak sepenuhnya menguasai hukum perbandingan tetap, massa atom relatif, massa molekul relatif, konsep mol, dan rumus empiris sehingga kurang tepat dalam menjelaskan makna rumus molekul. Kategori profil model mental siswa 3 dan 6 adalah kategori SM yakni siswa tidak mampu menentukan rumus molekul walaupun menguasai komposisi unsur. Kata Kunci: model mental, TDM-IAE, stoikiometri komposisi   ABSTRACT This study aims to find out the profile of student’s mental models on composition stoichiometry topic by using a diagnostic test ofmental model interview aboutevent (TDM-IAE). This research was conducted in one of high school in Bandung with six students of class X MIPA as the research subject. The six students consisted of 1 and 2 high-ability students, 3 and 4 moderate students, and 5 and 6 low-ability students. The determination of students' abilities is based on teacher's assessment of student achievement on chemistry subjects during one semester. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method and the form of the instrument used is TDM-IAE. The first stage of data analysis was the results of interview was made transcriptioninterview in written form, the second stage was made the interpretation of student answers and the third stagewas made the profile of students’ mental models. Based on the research, it is known that the category of mental model of student 1 is PC-2, that is, the students are able to determine the molecular formula but not fully understand the fixed comparison law, relative atomic mass, relative molecular mass, mole concept,composition of element and empirical formula so it is less precise in explaining the meaning molecular formula. Category of mental model of students 2, 4, and 5 is PC-1,that is, students are able to determine the molecular formula but do not fully understand the fixed comparison law, relative atomic mass, relative molecular mass, the concept of moles, and empirical formulas so less precise in explaining the meaning of the formula molecule. The model category of mental models of students 3 and 6 is the SM, that is, students are not able to determine the molecular formula even though they understand about composition of element.
