Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana strategi perlawanan waria (wanita-pria) dalam proses pembungkaman yang sering kali terjadi pada kelompok marjinal. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah tiga orang waria yang dipilih secara snowball sampling. Penelitian ini juga melibatkan tiga informan yang berstatus sebagai tetangga terdekat dari ketiga subjek, Ketua RT, dan juga Pembina dari Dinas Sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan strategi penelitian studi kasus dan menggunakan teknik wawancara mendalam serta observasi terus terang atau tersamar. Data yang telah dikumpulkan dianalisis menggunakan metode analisis Milles-Huberman. Temuan dari penelitian ini adalah ketiga subjek mengalami proses pembungkaman dari masyarakat dominan saat memutuskan untuk menjadi waria karena ditemukan beberapa perbedaan terkait dengan segi penampilan, kebiasaan serta gaya hidup yang sangat awam dimata masyarakat dominan. Sementara terkait dengan strategi perlawanan yang dilakukan, secara umum ketiga subjek melawannya dengan cara membuktikan bahwa selama ini cemoohoan dan penilaian negatif yang diberikan oleh masyarakat dominan salah. Mereka membuktikan dengan kerja keras dan berpenghasilan lebih, serta bisa membantu perekonomian keluarganya. Komunikasi yang dilakukan ketiga subjek untuk berhubunganpun mereka lakukan dengan adaptasi dan menciptakan hubungan positif dengan masyarakat dominan dengan motif agar mereka mendapat penerimaan dan pengakuan dari masyarakat dilingkungannya. --------- The purpose of this study is to find out how the transgender, as a marginal community, having a fight-back strategy in the silencing or muting process. The subjects in this study were transgender people who lived at Kiara Condong, Bandung. They acted as key informants. Other supporting informants consisted of the people surrounds them, such as neighbours, the local leader of the area (known as RT), and the informant from The Social Service Regional Office (Dinas Sosial). The method of this research was qualitative with case study approach. The data were collected by conducting in-depth in terview. Ther were analyzed by Milles-Huberman method. The result showed that all the key informants were experienced the silencing process from the major community. It happened when they decided to become transgender that had a queer behavior shown at their daily appearance, behavior, and lifestyle. Their fight-back strategy was motivated to defend themselves from humiliation and negative image from the dominant community. The communication strategy to fight back could be found in the form of adaptation and creating positive relationship with local community. Their aims were for having acceptance and recognition of their existence from the community.
