Abstract

The thesis is entitled “Strategy of Mao Tse Tung during the civil war in 1927-1949 in China”. The background of the problem is based on the strategies ran by Mao Tse Tung. He carried out a strategy named long march from Kiangsi to Yenan because the Chinese Communist Party was distress militarily by the Chinese Nationalist Party. The limit of the Chinese Communist Party in artillery pushed Mao Tse Tung to do the long march and set a strategy to overthrow the power of Chinese Nationalist Party. The main problem raises in this thesis is “how is the strategy of Mao Tse Tung in the civil war in China”, while the main objective is to know and to describe clearly the strategy of Mao Tse Tung. In the thesis, I use historical method, which is developed into several methods such as military approach, political approach, economical approach, and sociological approach. Based on the research, it can be explained that Mao Tse Tung used a strategy long march, which caused the villagers surrounded the city in the civil war in china in 1927-1949. Mao Tse Tung executed the strategy long march from Kiansi to Yenan to avoid the attack of Chiang Kai Sek, to guerrilla against Japan, to test the mental of communist party cadre, to embed to the Soviet Union, and to spread the idea of communist to the villagers. Mao Tse Tung realized that he could not attack Chiang Kai Sek so he decided to avoid and made defense bases in several villages during the long march. The impact of long march was extraordinary to the development of Chinese Communist Party. Support of farmers and laborers led Mao Tse Tung to run a village strategy by encircling the city to attack Chiang Kai Sek. Mao Tse Tung used propaganda to get the sympathy of rural people .With the support from the villagers Mao Tse Tung took control over several villages beforehand and then he attacked the bases of Chiang Kai Sek, which was located in big cities. Occupying several important cities in China gave a way for the Chinese Communist Party to expand the movement and to defeat Chiang Kai Sek. The success of long march and villagers encircled the city made Mao Tse Tung recognize as communist top leader and he became the leader of the state of the people of Republic of China.
