Abstract

Tanah merah merupakan tipikal tanah residual yang mengalami kondisi pelapukan dan pencucian (leaching). Tanah ini disebut juga tanah laterite. Secara umum tanah merah dikenal mempunyai sifat-sifat yang baik meliputi kekuatan tinggi, kompresibilitas rendah dan tidak ada perilaku mengembang atau menyusut akibat perubahan kadar air. Pengujian yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan serat karung plastik terhadap daya dukung tanah merah. Penambahan serat karung plastik yang dilakukan menggunakan metode acak. Persentase campuran serat karung plastik yang digunakan sebesar 0,4%, 0,6%, 0,8% dan 1%. Pengujian yang dilakukan meliputi Index Properties Test dan Engineering Properties Test. Hasil yang didapat pada penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa serat karung plastik yang digunakan dapat meningkatkan nilai daya dukung tanah merah. Peningkatan nilai daya dukung yang optimum terjadi pada penambahan serat karung plastik sebesar 0,6%. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa serat karung plastik dapat digunakan sebagai bahan stabilisasi yang baik untuk meningkatkan daya dukung tanah. Red soil is a typical residual soil weathering and leaching conditions. This soil is also called laterite soil. In general, red soil known to have good properties include high strength, low compressibility and no swell or shrink behavior due to changes in water content. Tests were conducted in this study was to determine the effect of fiber plastic on the bearing capacity of red soil. The addition of fiber plastic were performed using a random method. The percentage mix of fiber plastic used by 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1%. Testing was conducted on the Index Properties Test and Engineering Properties Test. The results obtained in this study prove that the fiber plastic that are used to increase the bearing capacity of red soil. The increasing value in optimum bearing capacity of the fiber plastic occurs in the addition of 0.6%. This proves that the fiber plastic can be used as a good stabilizing agent to increase the bearing capacity of the soil.
