Abstract

Limbah cair tekstil umumnya merupakan limbah cair yang mempunyai tingkat keasaman atau pH lebih dari 7 (basa), dan mengandung banyak materi organik dan materi anorganik sehingga mempunyai nilai pH, BOD, TSS dan logam berat khususnya Kromium (Cr) yang tinggi. Fitoremediasi merupakan suatu teknologi untuk menanggulangi pencemaran air oleh limbah cair dengan menggunakan tanaman sebagai agen remediasinya. Tanaman Zantedeschia aethiopica, Pontederia lanceolata, Echinodorus palaefolius, merupakan tanaman hias yang hidup pada media berair, dapat hidup sangat baik pada iklim tropis dan banyak tersedia di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi tanaman Zantedeschia aethiopica, Pontederia lanceolata, Echinodorus palaefolius dalam mengurangi kadar toksikan limbah cair tekstil. Indikator utama yang menunjukan potensi tanaman sebagai agen fitoremediasi adalah pengurangan kadar pencemar kimiawi berupa pH, BOD, TSS, logam berat kromium, dan laju pertumbuhan, dan juga tingkat kesintasan tanaman dalam menghadapi gangguan fisiologis. Penelitian ini dilakukan selam 60 hari masa penelitian. Laju pertumbuhan rata-rata tanaman Zanthedeschia aethiopica dan Echinodorus palaefolius mengalami penurunan, namun daya regenerasi dan daya akumulasi logam berat tanaman Echinodorus palaefolius lebih tinggi dibandingkan tanaman uji lainnya. Ketiga tanaman tersebut mempunyai rata-rata pengurangan kadar pencemar kimiawi sebesar >85%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ketiga tanaman tidak mempunyai potensi sebagai agen fitoremediasi limbah cair tekstil dikarenakan tanaman yang diujikan menunjukan adanya stress abiotik berupa klorosis dan nekrosis, namun tanaman Echinodorus palaefolius mempunyai potensi sebagai agen penyerap logam berat kromium. ----------- An increasing number of textile industries is creating new problems for the surrounding environment and directly affect all natural resources. Generally a textile wastewater effluent has level of acidity or pH greater than 7 (alkaline), and it’s usually discharged into the environment in case of a high enough temperature, and contains a lot of organic materials and inorganic materials that have high level of pH, BOD, TSS and heavy metals particularly Chromium (Cr). Phytoremediation is a technology to tackle water pollution by waste water by using plants as remeduation agents. Aquatic plants such as Zantedeschia aethiopica, Pontederia lanceolata, Echinodorus palaefolius, is an ornamental plant that lives in the aqueous medium, can live very well in tropical climates and widely available in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the potential of plant Zantedeschia aethiopica, Pontederia lanceolata, Echinodorus palaefolius in reducing toxicant levels of textile wastewater. Reduction of toxicant levels such as pH, BOD, TSS, heavy metals chromium and also the survival rate of plants is a key indicator that shows the potential of these plants as phytoremediation agents, this research conducted during the 60 day period. Pontederia lanceolata not shown decreasing on it’s average wet weight, but Zanthedeschia aethiopica and Echinodorus palaefolius had decreased average wet weight. Echinodorus palaefolius have higher regeneration rate and chromium heavy metals accumulation than other plants used. Decreased chemical factors is shown in all of test plants, the reduction of chemical factors is more than 85% in all test plants. By result from the data it conclude that Zanthedeschia aethiopica, Echinodorus palaefolius, and Pontederia lanceolata doesn’t have potential as phytoremediation agent for remediating textile effluents because all of test plants showing symptom of chromium toxicity which is necrosis and chlorosis, but Echinodorus palaefolius have potential as chormium accumulator.
