Abstract
This study aims to examine the extent to which self awareness influences the bystander effect in the context of bullying among junior high school adolescents in Bandung City. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 481 respondents from five junior high schools selected using the convenience sampling method. The research instruments consisted of a self awareness scale and a bystander effect scale, each comprising 16 statement items formatted using a likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. Based on the results of a simple linear regression analysis, it was found that self awareness had a significant negative effect on the bystander effect, with a significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.094, indicating that self awareness contributed 9.4% to the bystander effect, while the remaining influence was attributed to other factors outside the scope of this study. These findings imply that the higher the level of self awareness in adolescents, the lower their tendency to remain passive or fail to intervene in bullying situations.
