    Abstract

    Sekolah alam sebagai adalah inovasi pendidikan yang muncul di Indonesia sejak 1998 atas gagasan Lendo Novo. Berawal dari keterlibatan dalam pendirian TK Salman di Bandung, Lendo kemudian merumuskan konsep pendidikan sekolah alam. Minat penelitian tentang sekolah alam cukup besar namun belum cukup didukung dengan data primer dari penggagas maupun para pegiatnya. Buku dan publikasi lainnya dari Lendo dan para pegiat sekolah alam belum banyak dirujuk oleh para peneliti, terutama di sisi arsitektur khususnya kelas berbentuk saung dengan arsitektur vernakular. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merumuskan kriteria desain serta membuat prototipe rancangan arsitektur sekolah alam sekolah alam untuk Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD) tingkat Taman Kanak-Kanak berbasis pendekatan vernakular di Balikpapan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan teknik content analysis untuk merumuskan prototipe berupa kriteria perencanaan yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan suatu rancangan PAUD khususnya TK berbasis konsep sekolah alam dengan pendekatan vernakular di Balikpapan. Konteks ini dipilih mengingat Lendo memulai keterlibatan pendidikan pada tingkat TK serta adanya Sekolah Alam Balikpapan yang Lendo dampingi sejak berdirinya. Hasil penelitian berupa prototipe yang terdiri dari 5 kriteria berupa kriteria tapak, kriteria lansekap, kriteria bangunan, kriteria interior, dan kriteria fasilitas penunjang. Pendekatan vernakular penelitian ini diambil dari masyarakat Dayak Kenyah di Pampang, Samarinda. Pendekatan vernakular yang digunakan mengekspresikan budaya setempat berupa pola tata ruang, bentuk bangunan panggung seperti saung yang menjadi ciri sekolah alam, serta ragam hias atap dan warna yang tercermin pada bagian interior bangunan.

    Nature school is an educational innovation concept that originated in Indonesia and was created by Lendo Novo in 1998. Starting from his involvement in establishing Salman Kindergarten in Bandung, Lendo formulated the nature school concept. Research interests in natural schools are numerous. However, they have not been sufficiently supported by primary sources from nature school founder and activists. Publications made by Lendo have not been widely referred to by researchers, especially on the architectural aspect of this concept and the connection between open-air classrooms and vernacular architecture. This research aims to formulate design criteria and create an architectural prototype of the nature school at the kindergarten level based on the vernacular architecture approach in Balikpapan. This research used content analysis techniques to formulate a prototype in the form of design criteria that will guide the planning process of early children's education, especially kindergarten based on the vernacular approach in Balikpapan. The context was chosen considering that Lendo started his educational involvement at the kindergarten level and the existence of Balikpapan Nature School with Lendo being the consultant since its founding. The following criteria build the notion of the prototype: site criteria, landscape criteria, building criteria, interior criteria, and supporting facility criteria. The vernacular approach used in this thesis was taken from Dayak Kenyah community at Pampang, Samarinda. Such approaches can be seen in spatial planning, stilt buildings commonly used in nature schools, roof decorations, and the colour scheme used in the furniture.
