Abstract

This study aims to prove the existence of fanaticism mediation on the influence of parasocial relationships on verbal aggression behavior on social media among K-Pop fans. Parasocial relationships formed between fans and idols they follow often strengthen emotional attachment and group identity. This can increase the risk of verbal aggression behavior in digital space, especially when fanaticism is involved as a triggering factor. Participants in this study were 372 K-Pop fans who joined the fandom community in Bandung Raya. Verbal aggression on social media by K-Pop fans was measured using the Cyber-Aggression Typology Questionnaire (CATQ) with a reliability of 0.86. Parasocial relationships and fanaticism were measured using an instrument that had been adapted by the researcher with a reliability of 0.87 and 0.61. The mediation analysis used is the Baron & Kenny Causality Method and the Sobel Test. The results of this study indicate that fanaticism significantly mediates the influence of parasocial relationships on verbal aggression on social media.
