Abstract

Kata kunci : model pembelajaran kooperatif, Numbered Heads Together, pemahaman siswa Implementing of Cooperative Learning Model Type Numbered Heads Together to Improve Students Understanding of Social Studies. This study began from the student’s difficulty in understanding the intent nor the students answer the questions of social studies that impact on student grades. From16 students, there are 4 students (25%) were able to achieve the minimum completeness criteria of Social Studies which is 65. The Social Studies learning is more individualistic up till now and also the teacher’s style in presenting the material always use the lecture method. It makes the students feel bored, and also the material of Social Studies is only memorizing. In order to solve these problems, the varied learning is needed. This study is using cooperative learning model Numbered Heads Together. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research with Kemmis & Taggart model. This study was conducted in three cycles. The subject of this study amounted to 16 students. In the implementation of the first cycle, the students are still not addapt it to learning in groups but in cycle II & III students are getting used to learn in groups. The understanding improvement of the students can be seen from the results of post-test on each cycle. In the first cycle there are 4 students (25%) were able to achieve the minimum completeness criteria of Social Studies (65) with an average 55,625. While the number of students in the second cycle which can reach the minimum completeness criteria of Social Studies are 10 students (62.5%) with an average 70. In the third cycle there are 15 students (93.75%) which can reach the minimum completeness criteria of Social Studies with an average 80.31. Based on these results it can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning model Numbered Heads Together has improved students' understanding. The recommendations can be submitted for the teachers are expected to use cooperative learning model Numbered Heads Together as an alternative to implementing the learning, for research is expected to always pay attention to the steps of cooperative learning model Numbered Heads Together in order to achieve the learning objectives.
