Abstract

Kota Serang terletak disebelah selatan Teluk Banten, Indonesia dan memiliki sejarah kemaritiman sejak abad ke 15. Sehingga dari waktu ke waktu segala aktifitas masyarakat berdampak baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung terhadap laut dan saling timbal balik. Literasi kelautan muncul sebagai langkah agar masyarakat lebih paham dan bersedia untuk berpartisipasi dalam menjaga interaksi yang seimbang antara manusia dan lautan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sumber informasi dan tingkat literasi kelautan masyarakat di Kota Serang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui instrumen tes yang didasarkan pada 3 indikator dan 7 prinsip literasi kelautan serta telah diuji. Data diambil dari 400 orang masyarakat usia produktif 17-65 tahun. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa sumber informasi mengenai literasi kelautan lebih banyak berasal dari internet dengan tingkat literasi kelautan atau pemahaman mengenai pengaruh laut terhadap manusia dan pengaruh manusia terhadap lautan yang cukup baik. Indikator pemahaman atau indikator 1 sebanyak 65,67% dengan kategori sedang dan sikap atau indikator 2 sebanyak 72,88% dengan kategori tinggi yang mana lebih tinggi dari pada pemaknaan atau indikator 3 terhadap lingkungan laut sebanyak 49,65% dengan kategori rendah, menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat memiliki dasar pengetahuan yang baik tetapi tidak diiringi pemaknaan pribadi. Apabila dari prinsipnya, prinsip pertama menunjukkan nilai tertinggi sebanyak 80% dan prinsip keempat menunjukkan nilai terendah sebanyak 49,13%. Profil literasi kelautan masyarakat kota Serang memiliki ciri khas yang kuat terhadap tingginya tingkat literasi kelautan dikalangan generasi yang lebih muda. Tingkat literasi yang apabila dirata-ratakan mencapai 60% memperlihatkan hasil yang tinggi, bahwa masyarakat telah memahami manfaat yang diperoleh dari laut yang sehat dan konsekuensi dari tindakan baik individu ataupun kelompok terhadap lingkungan laut. The city of Serang is located to the south of Banten Bay, Indonesia and has a maritime history since the 15th century. So, for along time all community activities have an impact both directly and indirectly on the sea and are reciprocal. Marine literacy emerged as a step so that people better understand and are willing to participate in maintaining a balanced interaction between humans and the ocean. The aim is to determine sources of information and the level of marine literacy of the community in Serang City. This research uses descriptive research methods and a quantitative approach through test instruments which are based on 3 indicators and 7 principles of marine literacy and have been tested. Data was taken from 400 people of productive age 17-65 years. The research results found that the source of information regarding marine literacy mostly came from the internet with a fairly good level of marine literacy or understanding of the influence of the sea on humans and the influence of humans on the ocean. Judging from the indicators, it shows understanding or indicator 1 of 65.67% and attitude or indicator 2 of 72.88% which is higher than the meaning or indicator 3 of the marine environment of 49.65%, indicating that the community has a good knowledge base but not accompanied by personal meaning. From the principles, the first principle shows the highest value of 80% and the fourth principle shows the lowest value of 49.13%. The marine literacy profile of the people of Serang city has a strong characteristic of the high level of marine literacy among the younger generation. The literacy level, which on average reaches 60%, shows high results, that the community understands the benefits obtained from a healthy ocean and the consequences of individual or group actions on the marine environment.
