    Abstract

This study reports the implementation of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) by using Dynamic Education (Dyned) program in improving students’ English proficiencies. Moreover, it also reports the students’ responses toward the implementation. CALL was selected as an alternative method in improving students’ English proficiencies because it triggers students’ motivation and interest in learning English (Knowles (2004); and Beatty (2003)).

This study employed a quantitative research design, and the samples were the third grade students of one vocational high school in Bandung who had been divided into two groups: control and experimental groups. The data were collected by administering TOEIC test as pretest and posttest. Furthermore, questionnaire was also used to find out further information.

This study reveals that implementation of CALL by using DynEd program improves students’ English proficiencies. It is shown by the result of independent t-test on posttest of the two groups which was calculated by assistance of SPSS 17.0. It shows that t(64) = 5.121, p > 0.05. Since the tobt is higher than tcrit, there is a significant difference between the two groups after getting different treatments. It is also supported by the result of paired t-test on pretest-posttest of the experimental group, t(32) is 9.861, p.> 0.05. It indicates that English proficiency of experimental group has improved significantly after getting the treatments. Moreover, based on the result of questionnaire analysis, the students respond positively toward the implementation of CALL by using Dyned program.

Based on these findings, it is recommended that CALL be implemented as an alternative method in improving students’ English proficiencies. Moreover, the English teachers are also suggested to have technical competences in implementing CALL in order to build effective and directed teaching-learning process.
