Abstract

Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) dalam survei pada tahun 2015 yang tertera dalam data The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) tahun 2018 menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kemampuan matematis siswa Indonesia adalah 386 dengan nilai standar yang ditetapkan yaitu 490. Laporan The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS, 2007) juga menyatakan bahwa Indonesia berada pada posisi 36 dari 48 negara yang disurvei berdasarkan kemampuan matematisnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas VIII di salah satu sekolah menengah pertama (SMP) Negeri di Bandung, Jawa Barat. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik tes dan non-tes. Teknik tes terdiri dari pretest dan posttest, sedangkan teknik non-tes diperoleh melalui angket berupa respons siswa yang diberikan kepada siswa kelas eksperimen setelah mendapat perlakuan dan lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa di kelas eksperimen. Hasil pengolahan data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa setelah perlakuan di kelas eksperimen, dimana siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital mengalami peningkatan lebih tinggi secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan matematika realistik. Pengaruh pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa berdasarkan nilai N-gain yang diperoleh adalah 0,6274 dan termasuk kategori sedang/cukup efektif. Secara umum, hampir seluruhnya respons siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital baik yang ditandai dengan rata-rata skor total respons siswa, yaitu sebesar 4,19. Kemudian, rata-rata persentase aktivitas guru 89,65% dan siswa 89,17% dalam pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital dan keduanya termasuk kategori sangat baik. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan matematika realistik berbantuan komik digital dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar. This study aims to identify the effect of a realistic mathematical approach assisted by digital comics on improving students' mathematical communication abilities. This research was conducted on class VIII students at a public junior high school (SMP) in Bandung, West Java. Data collection was carried out using test and non-test techniques. The test technique consisted of pretest and posttest, while the non-test technique was obtained through a questionnaire in the form of student responses given to experimental class students after receiving treatment and observation sheets of teacher and student activities in the experimental class. The results of data processing showed that there was an effect on increasing students' mathematical communication skills after treatment in the experimental class, where students who took a realistic mathematics learning approach assisted by digital comics experienced a significantly higher increase compared to students who took a realistic mathematics learning approach. The effect of a realistic mathematical approach assisted by digital comics on improving students' mathematical communication skills based on the N-gain value obtained was 0.6274 and included in the moderate/quite effective category. In general, almost all of the students' responses to learning mathematics with a realistic mathematics approach assisted by digital comics were good, which was indicated by the average total score of student responses, which was 4.19. Then, the average percentage of teacher activity is 89.65% and 89.17% of students in learning mathematics with a realistic mathematics approach assisted by digital comics and both are in the very good category. Therefore, it can be concluded that learning using a realistic mathematical approach assisted by digital comics can be applied to improve students' mathematical communication skills on flat sided geometric material.
