Abstract
This research aims to investigate how the modeling method improves an effective teaching writing, in this case, a descriptive text, and to investigate the students' responses toward the modified model of descriptive text. To achieve these aims, the researcher employs qualitative research design. The data were taken from the seventh grade students in one of junior high schools in Ciamis. Instruments like observation, questionnaire and interview were employed to gather the data. Modeling is a method used as an opportunity for students to examine example target texts and identify specific aspects such as text type and register .The model of the text provided by the teacher was modified with the students' interest and level of proficiency. At the end of the study, different instruction according to students’ level of proficiency enabled the students to write better descriptive text. It also invited good responses from the students. Therefore, modified modeling method has been proven to be able to create an effective learning process.
