Abstract

Penelitian skripsi ini menganalisis sound design pada film yang meliputi speech, musik, dan sound effect yang dikaitkan dengan bagaimana komponen tersebut dapat membentuk unsur dramatik suspense, curiousity, surprise, dan conflict pada film. Salah satu film yang menjadi objek menarik untuk dianalisis pada bidang sound design-nya adalah film Sound of Metal di mana Nikolas Beker berlaku sebagai sound designer. Film tersebut memenangkan penghargaan Best Sound pada acara 93rd Academy Awards dan menjadi percakapan hangat di komunitas sineas selama tahun 2021 karena sound design-nya yang dianggap efektif dalam mengemas kisah yang dibawakan dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode analisis konten dari Klaus Krippendorf dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian bersifat deduktif, di mana penelitian membahas dari hal yang umum tentang film Sound of Metal ke hal yang spesifik seperti bunyi-bunyi yang dimunculkan pada adegan-adegan film tersebut. Pengumpulan data diambil menggunakan cara observasi, studi dokumentasi, dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya penggunaan speech, musik, dan sound effect dalam menyusun sound design film Sound of Metal, serta dilakukannya manipulasi pitch dan loudness, perubahan timbre, spatialization, dan penggunaan silence yang membentuk unsur dramatik pada film tersebut. Implikasi penelitian ini dapat menjadi rujukan bagi sound designer film di program studi Film dan Televisi di Indonesia. This study analyzes film sound design that includes speech, music, and sound effects and find how these components forms the dramatic elements of suspense, curiousity, surprise, and conflict in the film. One of the films that is notable for its sound design is the film Sound of Metal where Nikolas Beker acts as its sound designer. The film won the Best Sound award at the 93rd Academy Awards and became a hot topic in the filmmaker community throughout 2021 due to its sound design which was considered effective in forming the story it was trying to present in the film. This study uses Klaus Krippendorf's content analysis method with a qualitative approach. The study is written deductively, where the study discusses general things about the Sound of Metal film do the more specific things such as the sounds that appear in the film scenes. Datas were collected through observation, documentation, and literature studies. The results of the study found the use of speech, music, and sound effects in composing the sound design of the film Sound of Metal, as well as the application of pitch and loudness manipulation, timbre changes, spatialization, and the use of silence to form dramatic elements in the film. The implications of this research can be a reference for film sound designers who studies Film and Television in Indonesia.
