Abstract

ABSTRACT The research, entitled “The English Native-Speaker’s Strategies in Improving Indonesian Students’ Speaking Skill” investigates the strategies used by the English native-speaker. The research employed a case study, involving the English native-speaker and 15 Indonesian first graders of a private junior high school. Classroom observation and interview were taken to gain the data. In addition, the results of the research were analyzed with theories addapted by Herrel and Jordan, 2004 and supported by Meyers, 1993; Gibbons, 1993; Krashen and Terrell, 1983; Lozanov, 1982; Ruth Wajnryb, 1990; Barrentine, 1996; and Asher, 1982 . The observation findings reveal that the English native-speaker and the Indonesian students always speak English during the lessons. Moreover, there were several strategies applied by the English native speaker: communication games, leveled questions, modeled talk, vocabulary processing, scripting, dictoglos, realia, interactive read-aloud and total physical response.
