Abstract
This paper entitled “The Relationship between Students’ Grammatical Mastery and Their Ability in Translating English-Indonesian”. This paper discussed was there any correlation between the students’ mastery of English grammatical structure and their English-Indonesian translating ability. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there is any relationship between the students’ mastery of English grammatical structure and their English-Indonesia translating ability or not. Furthermore, the research attempted to analyze the English-Indonesian translating ability of English Education Department students who took English-Indonesian translating course. The sample of the research was the seventh semester of Translating-Interpreting program in the English Education Department of Indonesia University of Education, who took English-Indonesian Translating course. The paper used correlational method. The result showed that there is a positive correlation between the students’ mastery of English grammatical structure and their ability in translating English into Indonesian among the seventh semester students of English Education Department who took Translating and Interpreting program. The correlation exists since the mastery the mastery of English grammatical structure take a big part in translation and necessary to be acquired (Machali, 2000).
