Abstract

The study presents the report on the use of movie in teaching speaking for young learners. The study was ClassroomActionResearch whichidentified the use of movie inimproving young learners’ speaking ability and challenges that were faced by the teacher in teaching speaking. The type of movies used in the studywas cartoon movie, Dora The Explorer. The study was conducted at an English Course in Cimahi which involves four elementary students in third and fourth grades of elementary school.The study used three cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The datawere obtained through observation and speaking test.The result of the study shows that there was gradual improvement of students’ speaking ability in three cycles. The improvement of students’ speaking ability occuredinstudents’ fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, comprehension, and grammar.Therewere some challenges found in the process of teaching speaking using the movies. The first is the process of preparing the multimedia. The Second is the difficulty level of the language used in the movie. Hence, it is recommended that preparing and organizing the material should be prepared wellin teaching speaking using movies in order to make teaching and learning process more effective.
