Abstract

Musik film merupakan salah satu bagian penting dalam film, karena dapat menguatkan suasana dan emosi pada adegan film. Pemilihan musik The Path of the Wind yang merupakan musik film pada film animasi My Neighbor Totoro sebagai subjek dikarenakan musik memiliki komposisi yang minimalis namun menghasilkan bunyi yang nostalgik dan oriental. Peneliti melakukan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan struktur serta karakteristik harmoni dari musik The Path of the Wind. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu dengan teknik dokumentasi dan teknik observasi dari sumber data yang berupa berkas audio The Path of the Wind, berkas video My Neighbor Totoro, serta buku yang berkaitan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa musik The Path of the Wind memiliki 4 bagian besar, yaitu Introduksi-A-B-A’-Koda. Dimainkan dalam sukat 4/4 dan tempo 86 bpm yang berubah menjadi 84 bpm pada bagian Koda. Memiliki total 69 birama, dengan tangga nada E♭ mayor pada bagian Introduksi, bagian A, periode A pada bagian B dan birama 68 sampai selesai pada bagian Koda, kemudian bermodulasi ke tangga A♭ mayor pada periode B bagian B dan pada birama 63-67 bagian Koda. Karakteristik pada musik The Path of the Wind yaitu diketahui berdasarkan ritme, melodi dan harmoni. Musik The Path of the Wind memiliki bentuk dan struktur yang minimalis dengan karakteristik etnik dikarenakan melodi pokok menggunakan tonalitas pentatonik Jepang yang saling berkait dengan tonalitas akornya.

Film music is one of the important parts in a movie because it can strengthen the atmosphere and emotions in the scene of a movie. The selection of the music of The Path of The Wind as a subject in animated film My Neighbor Totoro because this music has a minimalistic composition but produces a nostalgic and oriental sound. The researcher conducts descriptive qualitative research that aims to analyze the form and structure as well as the harmony characteristics of the music of The Path of The Wind. The method of the research that used is documentation techniques and observation techniques from data sources in the form of audio of The Path of The Wind, video of My Neighbor Totoro, and books that related to the matter. The result of the research shows that the music of The Path of The Wind has 4 major parts, namely the Introduction -A-B-A’- Coda. This music is played in 4/4 an tempo is 86 bpm which changes to 84 bpm in the Coda section. This music has a total of 69 bars with the note of E♭ major in the Introduction part, part A, period A in part B, and bar 68 until it ends in the Coda section, then modulates to the scale of A♭ major in period B, part B, and in bar 63-67 parts of the Coda. The characteristics of the music of The Path of The Wind are known based on its rhythm, melody and harmony. The music of The Path of The Wind has a minimalistic shape and structure with ethnic characteristics because the main melody uses the Japanese pentatonic tonality that is interconnected with the chord tonality.
